Well, a few threads on here have got me thinking about the trouble I have with too much junk in my pockets, while I still feel the need to carry more. So, If anyone has advice or reccomendations.

I am looking for an all purpose day bag. I already have a camebak, as well as full size packs, so those bases are covered. The bag I am looking for would be a shoulder slung bag, large enough for a laptop (14.2x10.1inches), but not neccessarily a designated computer bag. I would like to be able to take that computer out, pack it full of who knows what, and not look like I am going on a trip. I have been leaning towards messenger bags, but certainly want several accessory pockets to organize with and a pretty secure main flap. Velcro or zip is fine.

This will not be a BOB by any means, just want to carry a fixed blade, books, paperwork, water bottle, first aid, lunch, etc, with a little room to spare if I am out shopping or something. I have made it a point to walk somewhere daily if I can't hit a trail, may it be 2 miles to the grocery store for a couple things, or just around town wasting time. This bag would be my carry along for those times, along with going to school if I didn't need a backpack. Waterproof is nice, but not a deal breaker.

Another concern is if I want to carry a weapon with a ccw. I have heard both sides of the argument about carrying off the person, but I want to have the option of carrying a weapon at times if I am going to the range, but not having my bag "speak" to people--to say that I might be packing. So a rear/against the body pocket would be nice.

Price range would be around 100 USD, but if I find the perfect one I am willing to splurge.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks guys. I know I'm being picky.

Yeah, those large BOB's seem like they would fit the bill. What do you think is less tacticool-standard black (looks like a briefcase), or the coyote brown? Really tryin to go low key here.

Great ideas so far guys. Those gearslingers are nice...real nice, I don't know how inconspicuous those would be for me though.

I use an Aerostich courier bag as my briefcase. It is meant for motorcycle couriers, and is made out of heavy Cordura with a rubberized lining. Mine holds my computer, work-related papers and books, and my assorted edc items. It comes in several sizes under a hundred bucks.

CountyComm doesn't carry knockoffs. They're the ones who designed those bags. They had Maxpedition make them for a while, and now Maxpedition has their own versions and Maratac makes the CountyComm bags.

I have their regular size Generation 5 BOB in desert sage (like coyote brown) and the XL BOB in black. Both great. The regular size is my daily gear bag, the XL is for shopping or just going someplace I need more carrying capacity. Easy to move each BOB item I'd like to take with me into the corresponding XL BOB pocket.

BIG difference in carrying capacity. Basically, the BOB carries my regular gear, not much extra room: a soda and a sandwich, a few books. The XL will pack 3 bags of groceries, easily. It also rides nicely across my back, messenger bag style, even loaded.

If you want all-purpose, go for the XL. If you have basic items you want around every day and won't need much extra, get the smaller BOB. Both of them have a fullsize pocket with a velcro strip across the top that does not appear to be a pocket. They even say it is a hidden pocket for a weapon.
