Just a note on service.

I recently contacted Allen about an older knife that I had purchased in need of repairs. He told me to send it to him. I was will ing to pay for any cost of repairs, but he not only did not charge me for repairs he also didn't charge for return shipping.

My old Shadow is back to properly operating and working great. Thanks, Allen!

All of the talk about custom knives versus production knives, I really appreciate custom makers standing behind their product for the duration.

Also great communication from him and his wife. I will be purchasing more Elishewitz knives in the future.

Something positive-

Hearing things like Daniel's experience is a deciding factor for me when it comes to buying a custom or handmade knife. It makes you feel appreciated by the maker.

I couldn't agree more with you guys.

They produce an excellent product and stand behind it without question. I have purchased quite a few for my collection and will continue to do so in the future.

Al and Val are two great people and I feel lucky to have them as my friends. I can only hope that one day SPEEDTECH will have as good a reputation as Allen does.

Stay sharp!

Jim

My experience with Allen's after-sale service has been extremely positive as well. As I've said before, I've handled many of his folders and found some of the liner locks suspect. However, I sent my knife back to him with specific instructions on how I wanted the lock to be modified. He did the work and sent it back to me within a couple weeks. My Elishewitz folder now has probably the best and most secure liner lock in my collection. The key words to tell Allen are: "I want the lock to be bulletproof, and I don't care if it's a little hard to unlock because of it". I think that I -- dare I say it? -- actually trust that liner lock!

I too am a big fan of Allen. I recently purchased a Tung Pan that was a custom collaboration between Allen and Bud Nealy. I found out while disassembling the knife that one of the clip screw holes was stripped out. Having no experience with G10 I contacted Allen to see if I could epoxy the problem. (Glue fixes everything doesn't it?)

Allen informed me that glue WOULDN'T fix the problem and that he would fix the knife for free if I would send it to him.

Needless to say, the knife is in the mail and Allen has another satisfied customer.
