I've broken my last three $10 pairs, and as much as my wallet and car scream out in pain, I think I should probably get at least a halfway-decent pair now. I'm not talkin' Oakleys or Raybans or anything crazy like that, but something that doesn't suck, won't break too easily, is somewhat easy on the wallet, and looks good.

Main requirements:

Wrap-around (no nosepads) - keeps my eyes from drying out too easily (contacts), and I wear them around the back of my head when not on my eyes

Preferably silver or gray, I've never dug black for some reason

Probably not a wild lens color, just silver and reflective enough so you can't see my eyes easily (I like to ogle, so sue me ;) )

Not too expensive, I'm thinking well under $100

Any suggestions?

Try check out shoe stores like, Champs and Action Footware. Also you can check out surf shops. Also, expensive shades arn't always more tough, I've seen guys with broken Oakley's cuz they threw their bag down, and once cuz a guy leaned against a wall the wrong way. Oh, Sunglasshut idk if you guys have them up there.

Yeah, we have Sunglass Hut. Might swing by there today. Any particular brands to keep an eye out for, either good or bad?

As with most things you get what you pay for. I used to buy the 10 dollar crap and break or lose it. I paid 150 bucks for my oakleys with polorized lenses. It's amazing how much attention I pay to taking care of them over what I've had in the past. You do not have to go that spendy but at a minimum you need a good set of polorized lenses. If you go to Sunglass Hut use the Maui Jim mirror they should have up. You will sse what the polorized lenses realy do.

I love my costa del mars. They will run you a littel over a hundred though.

Oakleys. Well worth the money and they look good. Remember, you get what you pay for. I would check out the O-Matter line. Great shades and can be found for less than $100. Also check out the Straight Jacket line. Nice wrap around glasses. May be a tad over $100 depending on the configuration you chose.

I have had great luck with Gargoyles. Lifetime warrenty which I used once. Only cost was shipping. Oakleys are great as well, just a little pricey for me.

Gargoyles, Inc. is now defunct. They were bought out by Foster-Grant a year ago.

Hey I did'nt know that. Damn the luck! Well they still produce the Gargoyle line?
As of now, yes. They bought the Gargoyle Inc. name and all brands under it.

I'd recomend Oakleys but they are the only quality glasses I've own. So I'm definatly biased.

Btw there are quite a few pairs of sunglass in the exchange forums. :)

I have worn a great many different types of sunglasses due to a strong photosensitivity problem I have. (Imagine my fun at having to fill out forms and have them signed by opthemologists to be able to wear tinted sunglasses in my corporate work environment!) And here are my views.
Ray Bans - rather cheaply made. Some of the newer models are made with a bit more quality. I usually wore the Cats, Predator 8 series, but they kept breaking at the temple
Oakley - I have owned a great many pairs of Oakleys. Currently I have the Mars and the Blade sunglasses. The lenses are pretty good, however the circular style of the frame and lack of earpiece has never fit my head. This probably has more to do with the shape of my head rather than the glasses, but I feel they are too expensive for the quality you receive.
Maui Jim - Decent glasses, a bit expensive
Serengetti - Great driving glasses, specifically the vermillion lenses
Bolle - the absolute best for the money sunglasses (off the rack). The polarized lenses are absolutely great and any of the glasses int he snake series will do you up right. You can find them at Sunglass Huts and the like for around $60. Also, when I had my glasses nearly cut in two in a ridiculous accident. The company replaced my glasses without a reciept that I had worn for the past 3 years. I highly reccomend them. They are made in France (apparently the French CAN do something good, other than surrender).

Currently, I wear 2 pairs of glasses constantly. I wear a pair of Bolle Zumas in heavy sun, and I wear of pair of Prescription Wraptors from Elton Optics. The Wraptors as the name suggests fits completely around your face and allows no light in. A little fog spray and they will never fog up on you. The reason I chose Elton Optics. They are the only ones I know of that offer the Eagle lenses. I wear these glasses non-stop; at night, driving, day, at work...they are the best money I have ever spent on sunglasses.

I apologize for the long post, but sunglasses are a passion of mine...be glad you didn't ask me about comic books.

I just went to the mall and there is a new semi-cheapy sunglass brand named UV3.

Polarized plastic lenses with metal frames for $30!

A great deal, they look just as nice as Sunglass costing over a hundred bucks. They have plastic lenses, so they are lightweight and safe. They are polarized, and the lens clarity rivals that of Oakley. Lots of non-sport oriented styles.

If you lose or break them, it only costs $30 to replace.

I am pretty happy with them.

ROTFLMAO!!! Nothing, I mean nothing, can come close to the clarity of Oakleys for $30. XYX optics is what it's all about. Read about it here

So where is the cheapest place to get Oakleys?
K.V. Lana is a babe! :D Friend of yours?
Your best bet is to check any local ski or snowboard shop as they have sales on sunglasses towards the beginning and end of the season. I did a search and found numerous places that sell them at or just below MSRP. Sunglass Hut had Oaklyes on sale here a few months ago. But if you want more band for your buck get a pair of Half Jackets. You can swap out the lenses and basically have 10 different pairs of shades with all of the choices they have in replacement lenses.

I don't know what style your looking for, but www.sierratradingpost.com frequently has closeouts on Costa Del Mar, Lure-Eyes, and other good sunglasses. They have Oakley A wire, and E wire glasses for $79.95, and Bolle "Slice" polarized glasses for $49.95 in catalogs I got this week.
I only wear Oakley M frames, preferring them to everything else I've tried, but Sierra's closeouts always tempt me to try something new.
So far, I've been strong, though :)

Thanks Ken, I will look for some Half Jackets. Any tell tale signs to look for as far as conterfit if I look on EBay? I should have mentioned that I do have a pair of Oakley blades I think they were called. I rotted out the nose piece with my greasy nose! :D The glasses are so oild Oakley does not make parts for them. At least thats what the kid at the sunglass cossak told me.
