I am the proud owner of a MOD Trident and Hornet. Recently, I decided to try a spine whack test on my Trident. It failed everytime but, it looks as though once the liner is worn in a bit, it will not fail. Anyhow, I like to streamline my knives by removing thumbstuds, pocket clips, etc. So I took the thumbstuds off the Trident. There is now a bit of vertical play in the blade. It appears that the studs were used as a stop for the blade (in the open position.) Amazing! Now the liner seats well into the tang of the blade, and out of 25 whacks on the spine, not one failure! I'm thinking of removing the studs from a Mini Socom that I have. (Most of my knives are autos) And I like the look of a "stud-less" blade.
