I'm putting together a little survival kit in an altoids tin and I'm curious what I ought to put in it? I've got 550 cord and fish hooks and I really dont know what else goes in these things? I can see the use of one for sure and id just like to see what works for you guys too

Fire! Redundant fire. Mini Bic, small ferro rod, some tinder (piece of fatwood, jute twine, PJ cotton ball in a straw with the ends melded shut, etc).

Button Compass
Heavy sewing needle for gear repairs
Water purification tab or two
Whistle

small firesteel, alcohol swabs, thread, needles, small blade of some sort, etc. those little things you find yourself thinking "if only i had _ right now"... if it'll fit, add it.

Put some Immodium AD tablets in there.

There's nothing worse than having diarrhea if you are already in a miserable situation.....that and some of the water you may have to drink might give it to you.

a photon LED light & Razor blade
depending on location but I keep a fishing kit due all the water ways in my area

I'm certainly no small kit pro, I like to think of my maxped as a 'small' setup. But here's one I carried for a bit.

I just use mine as a fire kit: peanut lighter from County Comm, matches, ferro rod, and PJ cotton balls.

I really find the survival tin edc to be hilarious myself. Now if you were going camping, hiking etc.. that's one thing.. but to carry one around everyday?

For a kit you can pull ideas from everyone, but you need to analyze what you NEED, and what you don't.. make sure YOU know how to use everything you NEED, and other multi uses they can be utilized as.. as mentioned before the only thing you really need is...

FIRE

the theme im getting is fire! seriously guys awesome info thanks a lot, the imodium is a sweet idea too!

A couple of antihistamine caplets would be a definite for me to include. Some people may see a kit of this type as something frivolous to pack everyday, and that may be true. But it all depends on what the heck you do and where you go. I could be less than 10 miles from here and if by accident I "kicked a fresh turd on a hot day" the items in a survival tin could come in real handy.
