And The Sign Says..........

Our lives are full of signs. There are so many signs hanging in so many places, they don't even register in our minds anymore. Signs, for the most part, are boring reminders of what we can, can't, should and shouldn't do. But once in a while we'll see a sign that makes us stop and pay attention. Here are a couple of those that have made me smile.

A newspaper clipping I cut from the China Post in Taiwan 1990.

Thanks for the laugh, Blackdog! The signs remind me of some of the ridiculous warnings you see now days -- like the one on a new lawnmower: Do not put feet in mower. Of course manufacturers are doing this to try to protect themselves from the onslaught of lawsuits. Let some idiot stick his finger in a spinning saw blade and get his finger cut off, and the first thing he wants to do is bring a lawsuit against the saw's manufacturer claiming that the saw should have had a blade-guard in place to keep people from being able to stick their fingers into it. And, of course, there's always plenty of lawyers around willing to take on any kind of case.

My favorite was one in a Japanese luxury hotel: "Mothers are asked not to have children in the lobby bar." Go figure that one out!

Another pic just re-discovered in our box of photos. This one taken in Tanzania in November of '83 between Arusha and NgoroNgoro. There was no river, no beach and no restaurant within a hundred miles. There was a bar however.

I saw a bumper sticker today that I thought was rather humorous. It said: "If at first you don't succeed; give up skydiving!"

Outside Kadena AFB on Okinawa, there was a sign for a clothing shop - the sign's caption said "The Wind Of America . . . For You." We never could figure out what that meant.
