Here is the problem. Say you have a completed the heat treatment and tempering of a ATS-34 blade and spring on a slip joint folder. You then find yourself needing to slightly bend the spring to make things line up correctly (read straighten).

What is the best thing to do:

A: use a torch to heat and straighten the spring and then re-temper twice.

B: use a torch to heat and staighten and then re-harden and re-temper twice

C: use a torch to heat and straighten and use the spring after it cools (no heat re-treat or re-temper)

D: throw faulty spring in the trash and rebuild new spring for folder

E: ????????????? Another idea. Tell me something else

Thanks

ShotGunOne, you make some fine looking slip joint folders!!!
As far as the spring, it would probably be best to anneal it and reheat treat it. It's a pain in the butt but it's better than breaking it or passing on a weak spring to a customer.
If you ever decide to write some tutorials or even a book on slip joint folder making, let me know!
