I tried to find an answer via search to no avail, so....

I was hoping to find out how the Laserna backpack holds up to rain, heat and high humidity? IE: Rainforest in the rainy season.

Would I be better off sticking with my waterproof kayak-mounting backpack or would the Laserna serve me well?

I'm surprised no one has commented yet. ESEE's roots come from tropical "training", so anything they create will have that environment in mind.

I'm guessing the 1000 Denier Codura will hold up, but constantly being drenched, I don't know.

This pack was designed for use in jungle environments.

I have one and it's held up very well to everything I've thrown at it.

Can't say how it would up to jungle conditions since there isn't a lot of jungle in New Hampshire.

I will say I was hiking with it in the fall and got caught in a two hour down pour and I was quite surprised to find the contents of the pack were still very dry.

Thank you guys. This is all good info for sure, especially the pack staying dry in that down pour!

Definately sitting on the fence with this one. I am not accustomed to spending big bucks on backpacks. haha, I'm not tactical enough I guess. But I really like this bag and looking for something to push me over the edge so I can justify it to myself. :)

Hopefully Jeff or Mike will jump in.

I know for a fact the material it is made from you can buy your favorite water repellant and brush on or spray on and be good to go ! it what I did for the Texas shower that pop up outta now where

I wish some more guys with the pack would chime in. I am also thinking bout getting this pack.

Has anyone done a review or anything on this pack?

There's a great two part review on Youtube of the pack. I think it's great, but I don't speak French:D You do get to SEE the pack from all angles though and get a good indication of size.

I've owned mine for a few months and it's been great. I removed the waist belt and stowed away the left shoulder strap and have used it as an EDC bag. I think the price of the pack in relation to what you get is a good value.

Thanks DH1. I may be hijacking but what are your thoughts on the pack being a 3 day hiking/backpacking pack? I will have to find the youtube vid, thanks for the info.

No worries about hijacking. All the more information the better. I watched that youtube vid but I do not speak French either.

TexasTony, That sounds like a pretty good solution if it will hold up. Basically the same waterproofing spray you would use on canvas tents?

HOLY SHIP! I just watched the vid. I a pretty sure he pulled a kitchen sink out of there! He just keep opening up pockets and taking stuff out! I really wish I understood what he was saying.

John, Does it ride ok on your back? It looks to be wide and not long, if that makes sense. I haven't read your write up yet.

edit* I actually have already read your write up on your hike( or at least looked at the pics). I didn't notice the pack. I really liked the pic of the tree with the setting sun.

The pack is made of 100% nylon fabric and thread. YKK brass zippers. It is designed well and will take anything a tropical environment will dish out. It is in my opinion, a lifetime pack because it is overbuilt.

If I had any complaint about the pack it is that it may be a bit on the heavy side. 6 pounds empty. Jeff and I both have done a lot of traveling by foot in the tropics and are pretty keen weighing every item we take trying to hold overall weight to a minimum. I have seen similar size packs weigh in at around 4.5 pounds but then you start trading durability for weight and it can become self defeating to consider only weight.

The Colombian maker we used for this pack has very high quality but he has a different concept of time and delivery than we do:) We are currently starting the gears turning on having it made here in the U.S. very close to me. In the process of doing this we intend to lighten the pack up a little but not lose the quality or durability. This can be done by changing the material on the interior compartment partitions but leaving the exterior heavy construction alone. BTW, there are only three black and three OD green left in stock. After these are gone there will be no more until we begin U.S> production....maybe a year out. Mike

Why don't you like me, Mike.!:D
Thank you very much for adding your comments about the pack. It helps me to hear from someone who has used it. Just don't know if I will be able to get one b4 they run out. Thanks for the heads up.

This summer it will be my hiking/camping pack, but I haven't used it "outdoors" in mud/water/branches/thorns etc.. yet. I don't see any reason why it woulden't make a great 3 day pack.

Remember, there are rows of MOLLE webbing down both sides, so if you were to add two pouches on either side, you would expand the capabilities quite a bit. That's what I plan on doing for taking it hiking/camping, finding two nice pouches for the sides.

Mike, is there any chance the foam back/shoulder straps will be replaced/supplimented by something like the Coolmax material that's on an Eagle pack I own?

Thank you Mike, that is exactly what I needed to hear. One final question, would you recommend obtaining a waterproof cover to carry along for those periods of solid rain or do you think that would be over kill? Placing my order now.

Also check out CDS (Comandos De Selva) in Bogota, Colombia and Christines in Quito, Equador. They both fabricate top quality, custom made to order backpacks, fanny packs, holsters etc.. with all the trimmings at a fraction of the US market price. Both company's products have been extensively tested and used in the amazon jungle by both military and civilians.

Yeah BUT CDS is who we use for the Colombian made goods now. Diego at CDS may or may not deliver in a timely fashion. This last order took 6 months to land here in the states. Hence we are looking for a U.S. maker now. But on the plus side, Yes he does make very high quality goods....if you can get them .:) Mike

Oh man, I went to buy the pack last night and realized I can't swing the funding. If anyone wants a sweet deal on a bow check out the exchange/trading section. (Mods: am I allowed to write that here? If not let me know and I'll remove that) :)
