I am really looking forward to the Bushcraft release. This will be my first Scandi Grind knife, and I am looking for advise on sharpening tools. I currently use a crock stick, and do everything at 20. I have researched this grind a bit, and it seems pretty simple, using a stone or flat diamond thingy. What should I buy, and how should I learn? Thanks

It is actually easier than you think to sharpen up a scandi. Like said above I practiced on a Mora and found it to be a breeze. If you can hold a consistent angle with crock sticks a scandi won't give you any troubles.

I'm psyched to get my second Bushcraft. It'll be saved for my oldest boy, when he's old enough. Pic of my current user...

This is my first too. I have a spyderco sharpmaker and was just planning on free handing it with the stones. I'm hoping this will work. I can't really afford any more stones right now.

I have a spyderco doublestuff pocket stone that i do most of my sharpening on nowadays, but i`m considering getting a fallkniven dc4 stone, as it`d be smaller to carry around. Freehand sharpening a scandi on any stone is pretty straight forward. Just keep the grind down on the stone, don`t press too hard, and the angle will come naturally.

I found that with really hard steel like 3V on waterstones it's best to draw it backwards like if you were using a strop, this will keep the stone from being eaten up so fast. Also if you over judge the angle you'll just drag the edge into the stone instead of carving a scoop out of the stone.

Don't buy Japenese waterstones. They will be eaten by 3V. Buy DMT stones - one coarse, one fine, one very fine.

Talfurche beat me to it!

Ya know, I sometimes find myself watching those specific RM clips not just for the content but they're also very relaxing. Like watching those Bob Ross "The Joy of Painting" series. Weird I know, but hey its me :o.
