I finally got some time to build a proper anvil stand. Don't even ask what I used until now!

It is 2X6's stacked 24" high and a wide base. It left some room for my hammers, etc.

The anvil is a 150lb Trenton.

How do you like that new base?

We have identical anvils and mine is currently on a stump which is way too short for me!

Mulling over a few base designs seen around the area, yours is a new one!

It is very stable and yet I can still move it if I have to.

The height of anvil face is right up to my knuckles when I am standing.

I have read good reports about using drums of sand as anvil bases. Not seen anyone doing this first hand, yet.

55 gal. drum might be a burden to work around due to its diameter, depending on anvil size. Thinking all thats needed is something big enough to get the base in without touching the sides and enough footprint to be stable.

Think I would look at something like a 30 gal. drum, they are also available in heavy wall thickness like the big ones and would hold enough sand to keep the thing from walking around. But then, my anvil is not 500 lbs.

Xrayed, have a listing of Trenton serial numbers broken down by year of production. If you are interested send your serial.

Hi,
I come close. I use a plastic planter that is filled with sand. Mankel 120? pound anvil. Rings like a huge bell on concrete. Nice on a bed of sand. Good energy.
2 problems: Can't use twisting fork in hardie hole and have to occasionally wiggle anvil to level after working far out on the horn.
Enjoy...Ken
