Any Knife Chat Rooms

There is a voice/text chat, at paltalk.
Go to www.paltalk.com com ,and download the program(free), when you sign on, go to groups, scroll through those till you find misc., groups, double click that, and go to knifemakers and knife collectors chat. Double click that and you are in.

heck go to our own bf.com chat room. irc.newnet.net, channel #bladeforums.com

people start coming around 7pm central time

Unfortunately with DALNet, if you are on a home network or behind a firewall, you can't get on. I can't enter because of the firewall on my router, and I know a couple others were saying they couldn't get there either.

Sparky, I didn't know that.
Boy that stinks.
NewNet just got to be so unstable that we were forced to switch to DalNet. What do we do now?

EFnet or Undernet?

Just suggestions, i dont know much of pros and cons on the different servers. But I do know that those two, plus DALnet are large IRC servers.

I'm on a DSL line and work off a wireless network with firewalls and I can get on DALNET easier and faster than NewNet.

Kev,

Don had problems getting on too, 'til he switched to a different DalNet server. Seems the one that irc.dal.net defaulted to had his ISP klined.

Looking at my own logs, I can't find anything Dalnet asks for that newnet doesn't also. Weird.

Of course, BF _could_ set up its own irc server. :)

Who knows L6steel in the chat?

We were talking about Canada's position in the wars, and I mentioned that Canada did the one thing no other country has... burned down the whitehouse...

and the sucker BANNED me from the chat! Anyone feel like unbanning me?

NEENER NEENER NEENER!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

That's why chat has become a lot less fun. If you have a difference of opinion there, you're likely to get booted and/or banned. And god forebid a FNG should come in. Most of the powers that be there are elitist and intolerant.

btw, if you use trillian to connect to mIRC, you can normally get around firewalls, etc.

Danelle forgot to mention that another hazard of chat is that I tend to humpalotta legs.
Nothing personal, just that having real time contact with folks makes me a little weirder than usual.
The stains usually come out with seltzer...and battery acid... and some flames...

Off to get checked out by my gynecologist,
I remain

VW, my guess is that you're unbanned already, try us again tonight. For some reason Mikey L6 was feeling cantankerous last night, he's really a good guy and just probably took your comment the wrong way.

Most everybody in Chat has gotten booted at one time or another, it's part of the game. Banning is very rare. FNG's are expected to let us know who they are when they come in. After that some fit right in and some don't. Chat is like a neighborhood bar, you have your regulars and some folks that just stop by once in a while. Some are more popular than others. Differences of opinions happen all the time, those with a thin skin and no sense of humor don't last. Considering the range of people you find in Chat; Makers (Newbies to Has-been) Manufacturers, High-end collectors to general Knifenuts it's amazing how little of the conversation is just about knives. Some of my closest friendships on BFC are based on the people I got to know in Chat. I go there for the laughs and most nights I get more than a few.

If you really think this is true you should have seen how bad we use to be. It is a whole lot more sheople friendly than it was years ago before D even started coming there.Even the thinner skinned can take it these days. e

PhilL, Im going to direct this at you, because you are someone I respect and I know you'll listen, and your answer will be honest.

There are people who have ops at BFC chat, that really have no business doing so. I don't know how that "honor" is choosen really, and it doesn't matter. But there are people with ops that don't even post at BF. Why is that?

Then, there are ops that regularly boot people for fun. I guess some people think it's funny, but for me personally, it is a huge hassle. It is very difficult for me to get on mIRC anyway, and a challange to stay connected. Obviously, others have the same problem. If I can get reconnected at all, it usually takes more than several minutes. Most of the time I just can't get reconnected, period. Is that funny?

Then the issue of FNG's. As a rule, I try to make a habit of emailing new BF folks to say welcome, etc. etc. Not every single one, but most. In return many have emailed me back after a week or so saying they tried to chat with us at mIRC and have been met with
hostility and rudeness. They've tried to be polite, and were completely accosted. Phil, you can't sit there and tell me that most folks are given a chance to fit in or not. I've been there, and seen how they are treated, right out of the gate. It's unfortunate..cause a lot of these people turn out to be very nice, and extremely knowledgeable. They're not being thin-skinned, they're not even given a chance.

Chat could be a lot more fun and would draw a lot more people if some people would just be a little more tolerant. We can be gross, crass, silly, disgusting, cuss like sailors and beat each other with trouts till the cows come home. But a little respect about the issues I've mentioned would make it a fun, cool place to be.

db, I was there in the beginning, as a rep of Spyderco, (different ID). It was friendlier and fun then...new people were allowed to get the feel of the place before being ignored, and ops were actual BF posters.

Danielle,

In the last 2 months Chat has grown by leaps and bounds! I was new just about a year ago, and had no problems with any of the chat guys.

You do have to introduce yourself (just like any polite person entering into someone else's converation), but generally it is a relaxed fun atmosphere. As Phil said it is like your favorite neighborhood bar. There are people there I know better than others, like better than others, etc. Just like any other intense conversations there will be disagreements.

Overall it is one of the friendliest, most supportive groups out there. There are alot of people in chat that have become good friends!

Pam

Okay Danelle, let me see if I can address your comments. Are there people with OPS that shouldn't have OPS? Yes, but people that abuse OPS can and do get De-OPed. I didn't have or want OPS for a long time, I just didn't want to be bothered. I have OPS now, and there are some I would Ban in a second, but I don't feel that's my right to do.
Getting booted can be a PIA if you don't have Auto-Rejoin on, if you do there's really no problem. If there's someone that you have a problem with and they have OPS and you don't, maybe you should hash it out. I have no idea why some folks fit in and some don't, or some get their chops busted and some don't. I know there were a few people that didn't like me when I first started going to Chat. Some are my best friends now and some wouldn't piss on me to put me out if I caught on fire.
What can you do?
I don't think Chat is ever gonna be a warm cuddly place for everyone. We like to bust each others chops in there, nobody is above it. That included; James Mattis, Walt Welch, Spark and the powers that be in Chat. The ones that stick can give and take it with the best of them. Some come to Chat and don't say anymore than. "Hello" & "Goodbye". Some regulars on Chat hardly ever post on BFC, what's really funny is some are moderators. ;)

I had a friend in the Navy that was from Oklahoma. He took the bus to NYC once, looked around the bus station, figured all of NYC was like that, and got on the next bus out of town swearing never to visit NYC again. If you had one bad night in Chat and never came back it would be the same thing. But, that's your call.

As far as acting like adults, I wouldn't count on that happening. :D

I took that "A" word out, Phil. I agree that's not the point I was trying to make.

As far as "hashing out" who shouldn't have ops, I tried that, and got nowhere fast.

Auto-rejoin is fine, but it is not reliable when it is mondo difficult to get connected in the first place.

I guess all I'm asking for, for myself and anyone else that has hard feelings about this is a little common courtesy. Give new folks a chance, and don't kick people because you're bored, or because they don't agree.

Some of these people profess to be Christians, for crying out loud. But their actions show their true intolerant worldy self.

One point that some folks may not be aware of, mIRC, DalNet #bladeforums.com Chat, wasn't started by or is it operated by BladeForums.Com. Spark doesn't even have OPS in Chat, nor to my knowledge has he ever requested OPS. If Spark did start an Official BFC Chat room, I'm sure the tone of the place would be quite different and reflect more of the image BFC tries to project. Would it be friendlier and more open to everyone? My guess would be yes, but probably a lot less fun. But, I don't think that's gonna happen because I don't think Spark wants the headaches.

There's nothing stopping anyone from starting their own chat room and making it anything they want it to be. I doubt I'll be switching rooms, but I'll go where my friends are. I've suggested several times there should be a Kiddie BFC Chat room, maybe Danelle would like to be the Den Mother. ;)
