any more ball bearing locks in the works?

Every day I carry my Dodo, I love the fluidity and ergos of the lock even more. I haven't handled a D'Allara yet so I don't know if it's just the Dodo's design that contributes to my enthusiasm or not. I do know that I'd love to see some more knives take advantage of it. Something Manix-sized with a ball bearing lock would be awesome...IMHO. Sal, are there any new ones coming down the pipe to get excited about?

I have heard 2 people complain about the ball bearing lock that the Dodo has but I have had nothing but good luck with the "ball bearing" lock. I hope it is the first of many to come down the road. ;)

Like any new concept, there is always refinement and improvements that are part of CQI. The Ball bearing lock, like the compression lock, is always on the testing block for improvement.

The D'Allara model has been refined quite a bit, thinner handle, larger ball bearing access slot plus the new drop point blade I guess could be considered "new".

The Poliwog pictured above is new.

The Pakal has the next major refinement of the BB lock, which we're excited about.

The Poliwog is such a MUST HAVE. Another Eric Glesser design, if I am not mistaken? This man really has a gift!!

But it is not scheduled for this year, is it?
Any info on what the materials will be VG-10 + SS handles?

Poliwog is Eric's. Thank you for your kind words.

Steel is VG-10. We will use VG-10 for Seki general production until a "better" (more optimal) steel is available. We'll continue to use H-1 for salt water environments.

Scales are stainless.

Delivery is scheduled for August.

August would be cool! But I realize that it is more a goal than a promise! :D .

Will the poliwog be available in SE?

YAHOOOOOOOOO!!!! Even if it comes in a few months late, hey it's still this year! I have no problem with VG-10. Just from the pictures I thought it might be S30V. I thought the blade finish looked uncharacteristicly "rough" for VG-10. I think the only thing the Poliwog is missing is a lanyard hole, so that you can wear it as a pendant :).

The lock on the D'Allara and Dodo simply don't cut it for me.

Its just too hard to get my big mitts in there to cycle the thing.

A larger ball bearing may make it doable.

Oh, and that Polliwog looks really cool - no matter the size of the ball!

ooh nice...that poliwog is like a mini-native or something. Please tell me it'll have an ambi clip!

Looks like it will, clip set-up looks the same as the Dodo! I don't know if I'm going to pick this one up though, it doesn't have that fugly beauty that the Dodo has. ;) Plus I think I might have to save up for that possible lefty Kopa. :p

It's like the beautiful unholy union of a Native and a Dodo...

That's true! :) It does look like that!

I like it, but I'm not quite sure about the way the ball bearing slot is open to the hilt-end of the knife. Why was it done this way? Those two sort of slots that are open when the knife is closed seem like they would impede sliding the knife into a pocket. Overall, this is at least close to what I've been hoping for, which is to say a knife with the ball bearing lock but with a more conventional blade than the Dodo's.

What's this about a drop-point D'Allara?!

The D'Allara gets closer to being my perfect folder, but I don't care for the flange-y hilt (too pokey when it's in a pocket, seems like), and more importantly I think that the pivot looks weak, like there's not enough steel involved. It looks like the blade hangs by this teeny little tang.

Make me a Para Military/Military/Delica/Endura/Gunting/Centofante with a ball-bearing lock, PLEASE!! :o

Hi Jeff.

Thanx for the input. We'll keep that in mind.

BTW, when we break it, the tang or the pivot is not what breaks first. (therefore, not the weakest link).

So perception is often challenged by reality. ;)

I have been carrying the D'Allara DP for about a month now. I love this knife as a work knife. It is strong, light and stays sharp. The BM Grip is nice, but for me this knife stomps it. I really like the ball bearing lock. It is strong, easy to work and the knife is smooth as glass to operate.
