Any of you are making their own throwers?

I was wondering if any of you were bored of buying cheapies or did not have enough money to buy good ones (sorry Bobby, maybe one day) and decided to make them yourself?

I mean... throwers are usually of a simple shape, do not have a lot of details and do not have to be cute at all.

I saw a tutorial for a knife made of 5160, the heat treatement seems quite simple on that one.

I already draw one on autocad and calculated the mass center on it (hey, I'm an engineering student, wich is why I do not have enough money to buy good throwers :) ) It looks like a cold steel sure flight.

I also have an uncle who might have the tools to cut steel.

Should I continue or should I give up because it is too hard/ costs to much.

go for it!
all you need is some leaf spring, a torch, a grinder, and you can prove out your design.

the heat treat can be dead soft for beginning throwers if you want.

leaf spring?

My technical english is very bad, sorry. What is it for here?

Funny fact: I filled a few pages to calculate the damn mass center for my design... then found that Autocad can make it by itself.

At least I had the good answer

That's a leaf spring

I've made a few practice throwers out of plain old mild steel which stays sharp enough to stick to wood (although it ain't sharp enough to cut much)

AAAAh ok, you just recycled that steel instead of buying new one.

And it's not a problem if it doesn't cut, it's a thrower.

Thanks.
