Any plans for an Izula III (long handle w/bigger blade?)

I've been comparing the Izula, Izula II and the HEST and the HEST and Izula II are fairly similar....except for blade size. I think that an Izula II with a longer blade would be super sweet, kind of like an Izula on steroids.

Has that been kicked around or shot down? I know there are already tons of products in the pipeline.....just really like the slim profile of the Izula and one with a blade a bit smaller than the ESEE-3 would be my dream knife. With the amount of them being sold, I think it would sell well.

I am really into the smaller blades, up to 3.5", and this would be my ESEE wet dream.

Obsessis,

I recommend Alpha Knife Supply. You can buy blade steel and handle material. Bust out a grinder, learn to HT, and shape up some slabs.

God bless,
Adam

There is a thread going already about how to mod your ESEE. I think it shows how to remove jimping and blade length with a chop saw.

I'm actually 80% done building my own 2x72 grinder, own a 2x48 grinder and have a 'ghetto' heat treatment setup and have done tons of research on HT carbon steel.....but that's not the point of the thread.

With Izula being a separate line/branding I was thinking that they might be producing more items.....the next step obviously being the Izula folder. I was wondering if they were going to continue expanding that line/brand or not with future items.

The EsKabar is nice, but I like the longer handle of the Izula II. I already have blade steel, a metal bandsaw, and could cut up and grind something and throw a pair of IzulaII scales on it...or make my own from some micarta I have laying around, but it wouldn't be up to the quality that ESEE/Rowen produces.

I could buy a 3, cut it up and grind it down, but the way the Izula blade and handle come together leave a different angle on the knife....it almost goes downward and is very useful. This is issue that would come up with an EsKabar.

I know Mike and Jeff frequent the forum and like to hear feedback from customers and was really a question/idea I was aiming towards them. I know lots of people make crazy requests and whatnot, but I thought I posted a fairly well thought-out concept that I thought they may have at least talked about at some point.

what about the esee 3? It has a thinner blade then the izula

It would be a go-between between the Izula II and the esee-3. Not a lot of room, I know, but with the special branding they may be looking for more Izula-labeled knives to sell. One problem would be the castings for the injection-molded sheaths. The Izula and Izula II are interchangeable, but this one would not be.

Izula's are the number one seller, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3rd Generation Izula some day.

Besides the folder, that is what I thought.

It seems the HEST filled a void between the Izula II and ESEE-3. I can imagine an Izula II-style handle (maybe just slightly bigger, maybe the same as the II) with the blade the size of the HEST, but the size/style of the Izula just a little bigger. You could save 1/2" to 3/4" of length (compared to hest) by eliminating the lashing points and moving the scales up and then remove the bottle opener/wire stripper would push the blade down a bit and then the edge geometry and angle of the spine of the blade and handle with the same proportions.

It just seemed like the next logical progression and would probably be pretty popular with people who think the Izula / Izula II blade is a bit too small. They made the II to accommodate a longer handle, why not make a III with a longer/wider blade?

I would love to see an Izula X, 10 inch blade, great sheath, come with micarta scales.
oh, wait....

I would buy an Izula II with a little longer blade in a heartbeat. I didn't think that the extra half inch and scales would make THAT big a difference from the Izula. I was wrong. The Izula II is one of the most comfortable knives I own. Add an extra half inch onto the blade for an Izula III also? Yes please.

An Izzy III as a HEST replacement would win me over. It would be even better with a horizontal sheath set-up.

That is kind of what I was thinking.

When comparing them, the HEST has a pretty similar blade/handle geometry as the Izula II, with some minor differences due to the bottle opener and raised thumb point. It has some drawbacks to it that I think the Izula does better.

I took my izula out and put it against the back of the molded sheath. The molded sheath shows a bigger knife than what the knife actually is. If you take your Izula (or II), and only put it in until you can still read IZULA or IZULA II and press forward on the end of the handle (to ensure the angling of the back of the blade), you can get a good visual as to what I'm talking about......an Izula II with a bit of a larger blade.

If you take the knife out of the sheath and lay it on top in a similar fashion you can see what I'm talking about as well. The molded blade shape on the sheath would be pretty similar to what I had imagined.

The handles could be left the same to make use of the current handles, or made a bit bigger.....depends on what the prototypes felt like.

I thought it was a good idea and hoped it would spark an interest or re-kindle one that was already kicked around.
