Anybody got a Spyderco SpydeRench ???

I've had one now for about a year and a half and I think they're great...... when carried as a companion to my Leatherman Wave.

If they had wire cutters in them it would probably make me carry them more in preference to a Wave, but at the moment my SpyderRench only goes to work and back with me, I only take it with me at other times if I know that I'm going to need it.

Having the adjustable wrench in them is probably the biggest pro of the 'Rench, the fact that it's got a decent knife in it is also nice.

Final verdict: great tool just not really what I'd use as a full time EDC, just my personal preference I s'pose.

Yep... I like mine. Like that you can use standard bits and can choose to carry the bit that you need. Like that you can separate the adj wrench from the pliers and use two tools together. Like the spydie blade.

I wish it had needle nose pliers and scissors. I don't carry it much anymore because of that.

Sal Glesser mentioned recently that it is up for a redesign and re-release, but they haven't got all the kinks worked out yet.

I've had 3 over the years (one stolen, one given to my dad, and the one I have now). I love it but don't carry it anymore. Just too heavy for what I need right now.

Can't wait until the redesign by Sal. I'll buy atleast 2 then.

I second that, they will sell many of them, especially if they make it even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have one, it's a neat item but a bit heavy for everyday carry. Also the pliers are awkward to use. I do think it'll be a collectors item though, got mine off the bay for about $95.00 bucks in the summer.

I know this is a little off the subject but I'd like to see Spyderco come out with a multi-tool like Leatherman's and Swisstool's with the fold out needle nose pliers. I think needle nose pliers are more useful than what they chose to use on the SpyderRench. Spyderco makes excellent quality knives and they come up with some great ideas so I'd like to see how they faired with something like that... I bet it would be awesome though and I'd buy one..... but thats enough rambling from me about what I would like to see them make.

I own a Spyderench and I think it's very cool...but I never carry it anymore.

The Spyderench has a surprisingly small maximum gripping size on both the pliers and the wrench, which limits it pretty seriously. There are also too many times when I want needle-nose pliers and not the traditional flat ones. And my final complaint is that it takes too long, and too much finagling, to deploy and put away the screwdriver bits.

There are probably some people for whom this is an ideal tool. The design works and the tools are excellent. I just found it to have the wrong features in the wrong package for my particular needs.

Posting that last message got me thinking...

Everything I said is true, but my needs now are somewhat different from what they were back when I last carried the SpydeRench. In addition, I've settled on carrying two multi-tools instead of one. What I used to demand from a single tool is different from what I want in a tool paired with my CyberTool 41.

So I am going to give my SpydeRench another try. :)

Do you know when they intend to release the new design ?

No date set yet. Sounds like it is still very much a work in progress. Here is the thread that I was referring to.
