Anybody see this?

That isn't the only design they are liberating. How about these:

Notice how that Sebenza-shaped thing is called the TitanX, suggesting it is made with titanium. But the only titanium in it is in the TiNi coating. Clever deception.

I figured them out. Didn't view them as exact copies but apparently the group does. They're history. Thanks for pointing out to me. I wish someone had sent an email.

Fred, I personally don't think that the fella's ment any harm.
You, on the other hand, are to be commended for your integrity
in your business offerings. One point to consider here....

While it's obvious that these are knockoffs of some much better
knives they may have a place for the raw beginner to learn with.
Sell them as knockoffs to make these knives affordable to folk's
who otherwise could never own them any other way. The business
aspect here is oncy they buy from you there is a much better chance
they will do so again.

Fred,

I am not knocking you at all. I respect you as a businessman with the highest integrity. Some of these designs look very similar to other knives. I believe them to be knock-offs, but that is just my opinion. I certainly wouldn't slam you for selling them.

I appreciate the sentiment, Dennis, but I feel the same way about it you do. I don't like the idea of orientals (these knives are made in Taiwan) knocking off American designs any more than the people who have posted here. I'm on the same side of the ledger.

Looking at the TitanX, I see a black blade and liner lock which, of course, doesn't remind me of a Sebenza. But the blade profile does remind me of a Sebenza after a little study. I just hadn't looked at it that way. I saw the Osborne and the Moran profiles on other models after I paid more attention to them. I agree with you. I think they are knockoffs too. I don't want to sell them. They're gone. Literally, there is no trace of them on our web site any longer. No regrets. I appreciate you guys bringing it to my attention. I really do. Take care.

Fred, I am impressed by your response to this issue.

I don't know the legal or moral details of these "copy-cat" products, but I agree that the TitanX is sufficiently different from a Sebenza in price, quality, materials and design that I wouldn't consider it a boot-leg product. CRK may have a different opinion, I couldn't say. They copied the shape to be sure. Maybe they even had permission (although I doubt it). I don't have a problem with it or with you carrying the product. I hope my post referring to the name being a clever deception didn't come off too harsh. That deception would fool only the most niave of buyers.

I can see this product being complimentary to the Sebenza. Someone like me could buy one to see if I like the format, encouraging me to invest in the real thing, or I could make a trainer out of it.

I respect your decision whichever way you decide to go with this.

Lurker, I'll defend the concept of calling it titan or titanium when referring to TiNi coating. Most people would consider a TiNi coating to be superior to the teflon coatings some manufacturers use and the manufacturers with TiNi coatings want to toot their horn a little. Lots of US manufacturers have done it (Camillus and Microtech and Buck come to mind and there certainly are others.)

I also agree that these Taiwan imports aren't in the same league with the knives they knockoff but that doesn't justify stealing a design in my opinion. I would likely have a softer attitude if they were stealing an obselete or discontinued design but the Reeve, Osborne and Moran designs are all current. What they should do is copy some designs that are no longer available but should be (Microtech SOCOM maybe?) I see what they are doing as a no-no. Take care.

I didn't post this as a knock on Fred or KnifeOutlet. I was pointing out the similarity of the TitanX with the Sebenza(in shape only I'm sure). I don't like the fact that quality production knives are being knoced off, but I understand that it's a business and the lower priced knives are where the profit is at. I don't have a problem with that at all. I have purchased a few knives from KnifeOutlet in the past and will continue to do so. Thanks for listening.
