Anybody use the but of their RATS as a hammer?

...well, I did. I used the CT to hammer in some tent pegs over the weekend (airing out the old girl).

Without having a prominant pommel, it did this quite well!

Now, the ground was not super hard, but I would not say that it was soft either. It surprised me to no end. The backyard is probably not my ideal setting to be trying this out though...:D

What about the spine? Anybody have the guts to "crack the crinkle?" so to speak....

I haven't used it to hammer with but I've hammered on the spine and the butt a lot. I have hammered on the spine to split wood and hammered on the butt to drive my BR into a stump(a little prying ;))

Neither have done more than scuff the paint. :D:D

Glad to hear that it can double as a hammer if needed :D:D

I have used the back of my PR as a light hammer when doing trim in the house. There were some nails that needed "coaxing" back in;), some needed outright "pursuasion".
It did fine, I see no marks yet... Give me a little more time.:D

I have not done it with any Swamp Rat yet, but have with a Basic. Any hard hammering contacts will tear up the handle material quite readily, you can heat-seal any rips, however extended hammering will do a job on the handle. The blade is another story, you will take the coating off quite readily with hard nail contacts, but that is just cosmetic, so there is nothing to worry about unless you get really excessive (using a small maul). With the differential temper, the Swamp Rats should have no problem ignoring hammering with or on the spine, with the extent of maybe a little impaction.

I always use the face of my blades...hammer pommel or not. It's easier to hit your target and lets you use the balance of the blade to hammer with better. It just works much better for me.
