I am not talking about the act of catching thumbstud against pant pocket's lip; I am talking about making the SubCom really waved - removing thumbstuds and installing some sort of hook, or dremeling it into the blade... did anybody do anything similar? I heard about it, but never seen it pictured.
I think that WharCom and SubClaw may be better suited to these modifications, due to the blade's back shape, but I don't mind any guidelines, pics or description.

I had planned to do something similar with my Sebenza, but I've no idea of which method is going to be most reliable.
Dremeling into the blade won't work on a Seb, there isn't enough room and I'm afraid I may burn the temper out of the blade. So I'm thinking of the removable hook idea myself.
Only problem is, there isn't a single knife out there that was designed to accomodate this. So one has to work around that. I had an idea of screwing on a hook of some sort via the thumb-stud:

The last time I raised this idea on the forums, people gave me all sorts of suggestions; perhaps the hook need only fit over one side of the blade, instead of both, maybe it can be completely flat, or bent so that the hook stands evenly over the blade...the list goes on forever.
The only ongoing dilemma relates to the choice of materials. The hook has to be made of something sturdy, or at least have a sturdy design. It has to resist impacts and corrosion, but should still be easy to make in case it needs to be replaced.
Tough call, man. Good luck on yours.

I've done it several times. Both using the original thumb stud or the thumb disc screw to mount it and hold it in place.

Seen below in these links are two Emersons you'd never expect to see Waved and one Cold Steel Spectre all with a pocket hook added by me that I have not seen anyone else duplicate.

There is a thread called "cutting waves" on this same forum. I'll put a link just in case. I used a dremel with a cutting disk to create a wave on my 551 griptilian, my crkt M16-14, and my spyderco endura 4. It is very simple with the correct parts (I had to go back and forth to wally world cause I kept getting the wrong size bits:rolleyes:). With the disk I made a simple cut above my thumb studs (talking about the 551 griptilian here) and made the incision about a 1/4" in. Then I used a rod with a sandpaper grit on it to polish of the rest. Came out very nice and easy to do. Hope this helps, J.
