Anyone but me dye leather with this?

I finished a sheath last night (nothing thrilling, just a Tandy sheath that I put my Mora in.)

Here's where the question lies: I realized that I didn't have leather dye like I thought I did, BUT I did have some Poly/Stain. I tried it, and loved the results. I wonder how many others, if anyone else has done this?

Also, what other different things besides dye have you used to color your leather?

I haven't used wood stain on leather, but I have used leather dye on a wood Mora handle.

As far as other things... I haven't done it, but I've heard of folks using coffee. Some folks make an old school vinegaroon solution from vinegar and steel (such as steel wool) that yields a matte black dye.
