Anyone dislike S30V?

I don't dislike it but if a model I'm interested in comes in a "better" or more interesting steel I'll pay more for that just because S30V has become rather common. I do know some people don't like it because they have difficulty sharpening it (although there are much more difficult to sharpen steels out there). I would choose something like M390 or CPM-M4 over S30V if given the choice, but I'd still pick S30V over steels such as 154cm, AUS-8, 440C, 420HC, 8cr13 as well as some others.

I really like s30v. Sharpening it holds no surprises for me and though it loses that "fine" edge fast, it holds that somewhat duller working edge(which still cuts what I need to cut) for quite some time.

Having said that, I will add that there are some steels which I like better but I would not turn my nose down at S30v.

I don't like it that much. I don't hate it; it's a good steel, but it seems more hard to sharpen than it's worth for the edge retention. Something like 154CM or VG-10 has edge retention almost as good, but is much easier to sharpen and polish. Then something like ELMAX has better edge retention, but also seems easier to sharpen. S30V is a good benchmark steel, but I wouldn't seek after it in a knife.

I don't really like it that much. Doesn't take as fine of an edge as I would like

That's what I've been coming to realize. I have a few Buck Vantages. I have the Sandvic 13c26 and the one in S30V and I'm finding I like the Sandvic better. I know your supposed to have to sharpen the Sandvic more frequently, but it takes a razor edge with more ease (so I'm told). I just know the Sandvic came razor sharp and the S30V did not. I'm sure you can get the S30V razor sharp as well, I've just read it takes more work and like someone else said, it doesn't hold it that well.

I dislike it. I find the time spent sharpening is generally not worth the slight advantage in edge retention over other steels. Also, it seems that many companies don't put a heat treat on it that does it any justice. It certainly has it's advantages, but I don't really see the justification for the sharp price increase over AUS8 or 154CM.

My EDC one handed folders are mostly S30V. I'm very comfortable with it and how it responds to being sharpended. True that some makers seem to have the heat treat down better than others. It also does lose that hair whittling edge quickly but is usable for a long time. The rest of the knives I use are mostly 1095. Now that is a great steel! Does not chip and very tough. Easy to sharpen and very predictable. My fixed blades, custom kitchen knife, and my traditional folders are all 1095.

i love the stuff...holds its edge well and as long as you don't wait till it get really dull it's easy to get the edge back...

and since i have no intention ever of shaving my face with an s30v knife, getting one "shaving sharp" is irrelevant; all i ever need on my knifes are "working edge" sharp

I like it. That being said I would take other steels like CPM154 hands down over it.

True indeed, but there is just something that is satisfying about having a knife that is razor sharp. Just personal preference though.

Yep, I prefer a razor sharp knife too and I can get s30v there easily too.

One thing I like about s30v is I can strop it on my jeans after allot of cutting task use, and almost bring back the hair shaving sharpness.

Not my favorite though. I like most of the other commonly used knife steels much better. Won't not buy a knife I like cause its s30v, but if there is another steel choice option I pick it over s30v.

My Spydercos S30V do well for me. But now I have so many knives in S30V Im avoiding getting any more with it. I think its to common now. Its a great EDC steel, I just want to try out some new steels and get different things.
