Anyone ever hear of a "Gypsy" made by "Fury"?

I recently came across this folding clip point bowie called the "Gypsy". I bought it just as a novelty item knowing Fury is a less than reputable company... The box didn't give me any info but I'm assuming it has a 440 blade; but the locking system is what made me wonder how durable the knife truly would be because it doesn't have a liner or backlock, it has two strong backsprings and a folding metal tab that you flip under the blade making it (seemingly) pretty secure. I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about this knife...

lol I bought a knife very similar to that (I assume the same brand) in what must've been middle school from a gun and knife show (or maybe cheaperthandirt or something), just because how how ridiculously long the blade is for a folding knife. I have no idea where it is to get it out to be sure, but if I remember right, the blade snaps into place like a SAK, then the metal piece you see on the handle folds up again with a snapping motion (it may have a spring to help it), preventing the blade from folding up. I think the guard also slides into place around the handle and blade also to prevent the blade from folding up. I don't remember thinking it seemed unsafe, but I also never used it, so I can't be sure.

I wouldn't buy it if you're looking for more than a gimmick unless you have an interest in different lock designs.

umm...you do know what happens when you assume?

Copy of the Marbles folder for sure. Looks like a poorly made copy, but the lock should work as it blocks the blade from closing. SMKW has a "new" Marbles one now made in China for about $25 that is ok...

I had one of these years ago but lost it (I actually registered at this forum because I googled "gypsy fury knife" because I am trying to find another one of them).

I am not a knife snob, just a casual knife enthusiast, mainly into balisongs. Anyways around 5 years ago I used it because I lived in a horrible neighborhood, and it was foldable and pretty intimidating looking with the 5-6 inch blade. I also used it for an all purpose tool. I practiced opening it quickly for self defense purposes, and the lock never failed. Once the blade was locked, it was very sturdy and had very little play in it.

All in all I would say it is not the best knife ever created, a bit of a novelty, but very good and I would like to find another. (Anyone know where to get one?)

I've got one (found it in a Boston Army/Navy shop). I bought it because it was based on the Marble's system--which is an interesting pattern.

There is a repro of the original being made by the current holder of the Marble's name that is more refined (got that one, too).

As I say, it's an interesting pattern. The lock is actually a blade guard in closed position; allows for a long blade in a short handle. That being said, you need a sheath for it: Why you'd want this versus a fixed blade is an open question.

Exactly what I was going to say.
