Has anyone ever used forklift fork steel?? Or Anyone used one of those BIG concrete saw blades that you see during hiway construction???? Any ideas of what the types of steel these are???

Hey Soopy, Wayne Goddard has fork lift steel that he was going to use as the facing for an anvil and he was told it is possibly 4140 or 4150.

I'm afraid I'm no help on the big masonry saws, though It seems I remember someone asking a similar question within the past 3 or 4 months.

In a past life I was a trucker I had been making
knives for a while, I got a load of fork lift forks
at a steel ware house beeing alwayes on the look
outlook for blade meterial I asked about the
meterial I was told it was mild steel. You would
need to check it to find out if it would harden

Highway saw blades seem to be a medium carbon, I made one from the steel given to me, not much in the way of an edge. Sooo. maybe 1040, 1050 or something like that.

Forklift forks are generally 4140, 4340 or so, makes better anvils than blades.

I worked for a place that made atachments for fork lifts and all we used was D-2.But that dosent realy answer your question dose it?
