I've been reading so much of RJ Martin's amazingly sharp and tough japanese tacs and am planning to save $ to buy one (esp the wasabi!). :) I'm curious tho' about whether anyone puts a beauty like RJ Martin's wasabi to actual hard utility /tactical / martial arts use, as opposed to say, a spyderco or busse? would you like, carry a 4 inch wasabi as an edc (for those carrying fixed blades as edc)...

any comments? :D

I think you mean a Wakizashi, the shorter sword to a samuri katana.

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong--I know very little about Japanese products and customs, but Wasabi is a very hot sauce people put on sushi.

I have no experience with this short sword.

Yep, MMM it's good on sushi! Actually, there is a little knife called the Wasabi. I've seen pics of it, and it looks like a little necker on steroids. I'm sure it's one tough little customer. All his work is top shelf, so I'm sure the Wasabi is no exception.

Thank you, tknife, I didn't want someone with a sincere question to think that I was a jerk. Truth be told, a lot of good quality Japanese products all sound the same to me. I have a April 2002 copy of Blade magazine in front of me and I checked spelling.

I have not seen a shorter knife called a Wasabi.

I had a 3 3/8" Wasabi in 3-V up until Tuesday. I can say with no hesitation that R.J. Martin crafts a very, very fine blade!! Based on that one I couldn't imagine what it would take to pound it into submission. Mine stayed in the locker, no reflection on it's merits as a carry piece, more so because I have other users.
Stay Safe,
Clyde
p.s. When I offered it for sale I got many quality offers so others must think highly of R.J.'s work also.

Never used mine, but its a great looking knife IMHO

R.J. Martin makes outstanding knives. As soon as you pick one up you can feel the quality. I have been carrying one of his 6" double ground blades for about 2 months now. I have not needed to use it yet, but just knowing that I have it is reassuring (along with my H&K COMPACT 45!!). His workmanship is first rate!

Jason, glad to hear that you do use it as a carry piece. I was beginning to think that altho' RJ's works are great, they could only be admired from behind glass or with kid gloves, instead of being actually applied in the field. Has Cliff Stamp ever done any reviews of this knife or similar RJ pieces?
