Does anyone recognize the brand of these diamond sharpening stones? Used them?
Would $60 be a reasonable price for the 3x8" stone (of this quality)?

I don't recognize it, but there are a lot of diamond stone makers. For around the same money you can get a DMT stone of the same size from some of the Ebay stores.

I was interested in this one because of its width of 3". My DMTs look to be about 2.5"x8".

My DMT's are 3"x8" and only the extra extra coarse and extra extra fine cost near that amount of money (you can now find the extra extra coarse for $67 from AllProTools.com or $75+ elsewhere) and the rest were around $40-45 shipped. My EZE-Lap stones are a bunch of 1"x6" and a small, roundish mult-surface hone, so I have no direct comparison. What I can say is that their 120 grit and 325 grit benchstones (DMT, that is) have been pure joy; their 600 grit works okay; and their 1200 and 8,000 grit were disappointing.

Thanks Thom,
Looks like I was comparing apples to oranges. My stones (the 600 and 325 mesh) are the "whetstone" and yours must be the "dia-sharp". For the life of me I can't remember why I would have purchased the more narrow option--I prefer more real estate:D. Plus the "whetstones" seem to cost more $$. Go figure. (Were the the "dia-sharp" on the market 10-15 years ago?)

Anyway mystery solved.

I've had the same impression of the grits: rather non-plussed by the 600 mesh and a slight elevation in pulse with the 325 mesh. Remember having the same impression as SIFU1A when I made my purchase-- the DMT seemed better.

I found this site, Craftman's Studio http://www.craftsmanstudio.com/html_p/T!D8.htm
which seems to have reduced (tempting) prices. So in your experience you get more on the lower end of the spectrum, hmmmm........where's my credit card?:D

I've used Ez-Lap 3 X 8 stones for about 15 years, both for personal use and at 2 workplace shops I've outfitted. I am very happy with them and I have not worn any out yet. (there was one that rusted because it got left in a water bath for a couple months, but that's not the stone's fault) The "superfine" grit stone is an ok finish stone for a working edge, but for a polished edge it is necessary to move on to something else with a finer grit (ceramic, waterstone, ...) The prices on your link seem a bit high, Ez-Lap sells direct at the large machinist's expo's like WESTEC and IIRC the coarse grit stone was $50 and the others were less than $40 when I bought some a few years ago for work
