Viking King! The most gallant artwork I've seen!

Anybody knows the type of the damascus and the price like this knife may be?

The damascus looks like twist in the center and firestorm on the cutting edges.

Knifeart and mastersmiths both knives from Andre for sale.

And of course Andra's father Michael is a knifemaking marvel himself.

Here's a photo of Andra from the David Darom book "The Art of Modern Custom Knifemaking". The ivory in the background is of no surprise as it seems Andra, Michael and Roger Bergh have cornered the world market on beautiful north sea ivory. ;) :)

André was born in the north of Sweden, in 1980. He always showed
great interest in creating things with his hands, from medieval armor in
his teens, to becoming a very dedicated drawing artist, later on. But
when, at the age of 19, he discovered the great artistic potential in knife
making, he really got hooked. He likes the many challenges facing him
when starting on a new knife and the way he can express himself
throughout the process.
André loves working with fossil materials giving the knife not only visual
depth but also a feeling of being connected to our world’s history.
Most of his knives are truly handmade, minimizing the use of machinery,
but this does not prevent him to really enjoying the times when he needs
to use advanced machinery.
André want's the process of his knifemaking to be a challenge.
He constantly strives to create something new and is working not only on
more advanced knives but also on blade weapons that are not considered
knives. "There is a huge world out there with endless possibilities, and I
want to try out at least some of them".

Taken from Andre's section in my book "...The Art of Custom Knifemaking"

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Lots of interesting information!:thumbup::D

The knife is one-of-kind, dealer offers it for $3600, although I know it's ridiculous but I can't resist the lure. Does it really have the potential of fund increment? I don't think so.:confused:What's your opinion? Whatever, I'm not a professional collector, increment means little to me.

Did you once have to be faced with the situation, true "love" and high payment...:confused:

Ridiculous is not the word I would use, as it's a substantial piece requiring many hours of skilled labor. The sheath in itself is an outstanding work of art. You can usually expect to pay a little more buying from a dealer's inventory over buying at a show or direct from the maker. Nothing wrong with that as dealers provide a service and deserve to be compensated for it.

Does it really have the potential of fund increment? I don't think so.:confused:What's your opinion? Whatever, I'm not a professional collector, increment means little to me. Though increment may mean little to you it's always good to acquire a price that you can recoup or possibly increase your initial outlay if for some reason you have to sell. IMO, you could probably do a little better than this particular piece in that regard for your $3600 outlay of capitol. At the end of the day, only you can decide if this piece is for you and it's worth (to you) what's being asked. It's a beautiful piece from a great maker. Hope this helps.

Did you once have to be faced with the situation, true "love" and high payment...:confused: Not once, but many times. ;) :)

There's also a beautiful Roger Bergh Bowie on a particular dealer site if his work interest you.

Here is an amazing knife and matching sheath that Andre made
for me in 2004. It is Featured full page in my book "Art and Design in
Modern Custom Fixed-Blade Knives"

The knife is named "Event Oblivion" and was created specially for the
book. The Mosaic Damascus blade has a 15N20/20C Explosion pattern
Damascus edge and spine. The beautiful sheath - made of buffalo horn,
fossil mammoth ivory and Damascus steel - created for storing it, raises
the knife to a higher level. Overall length 10 2/5" (259 mm).

"Walkman", if you really like the knife you posted - GO FOR IT!!

All the best,

Not to cross this dealer but if you contact Andre directly I'm sure you will pay (much) less and you will have the opportunity to have a bit of influence on the design too.

Andre is a nice guy to talk to and has a very fair back log.

David, that's my favorite Scandinavian style knife/sheath combination of all time. Perhaps my favorite photo too.

Yes this is indeed a very lovely knife and certainly one of the best Andre ever made:cool::thumbup:

A few years back Andre made me this fighter that even ended up on the cover of Blade in 2007.

Dr Darom, I must second Kevin Jones' comment on that knife/sheath combination and the image.

Thank you all for warm concern!

Dear ddd: Your knowledge and your "event oblivion" touched me, I will never forget the wonder design of sheath which let me see Andre's talent further.

Dear Kevin: I'm ashamed of unintentionally using word "ridiculous". I said that only because the most expensive piece of Andre I could find through dealers' site is $1800... But now, all of you make me a new concept of Andre and his works, even the "Viking king" itself is looked more finished now.

I will contact dealer and engage myself to my "true love", thank you guys for warmhearted encouraging.

Best regards

Another question:

Does Andre use the product of "Sweden Damasteel AB" and do heat treatment by himself?

Does Andre use the product of "Sweden Damasteel AB" and do heat treatment by himself?

Will you please don't insult Andre:D;) Andre forges all his steel himself. This is from his website:
The blades are all made from high quality Swedish tool steels forged into dramatic and beautiful patterns in the medieval pattern welding technique; also called “Damascus”. I also use the more modern forging technique called “Mosaic Damascus”, combined by pure nickel, iron and numerous powder steels.
