I've been working on my first knife with a peice of .237 5160. It's just too thick so I've given up on it. No one local has anything in the 1/8th inch size I'd like to use so I found something at home depot. Do any of you know what type of steel this might be? Will it make a decent blade after heat treat? 1018 mild steel. Not hardenable. I wouldn't suggest making a knife from it, it's just .18% of carbon away from being iron. Good for construction, general welding, or even fittings for knives.
