They claim to last twice as long as any alkaline battery, but I'd like to hear from an actual user. For 12 AA batteries I need and the recharger, it will cost me about $60, but they'll pay for themselves in a couple months (If the charge lasts like they say!)

i'm not an expert, but i'll play one on this post. from what i've read on candlepower fourms, the NIMH have a flat power discharge curve, IOW they work till they don't. that's an oversimplifaction but the good part is you can use them again (obviously) they drain off even when not being used.
for long term, non continuous use lithium batts. are the best, but with surefires, digital cameras, other power hungry flashlights they don't last that long (1-2 hrs. at best, depending on the brightness of the light) and you have to work to find them cheap.
I guess it just depends on what your using them for. we just had twins, and all their toys have rechargeables; otherwise i would'nt even have this computer left.
look on the candlepower fourms to go blind reading stuff about batteries & other light emitting toys.

Most cell phones use the NIMH battery, I am not impressed! The NIMH battery on mine claims to last 4 hours of non-stop talk time. I am lucky to get 1 1/2 hours from it. I just purchased it in Feb. They say the key to getting long life from them is to completely drain them before recharging, I do this with not much better results. Also, they wear out (on cellphones) every 1-2 yrs depending on usage. My advice is to be weary and search for the best prices.
