Sorry if some of you think this is a dumb question, but are they considered customs or production??

Thanks!

Jeff

Dozier knives are definitely considered to be custom knives.

It is not a dumb question, but I do wonder why you ask. Have you heard somewhere that Dozier knives are production knives?

no, i've never heard anywhere that they were production, I was just trying to make sure that they were considered custom:)

I think I can understand how a person MIGHT wonder if Dozier knives are something other than custom knives. With all of the different definitions flying around this forum about what is a custom or is not a custom knife; CNC or not to CNC knife parts can get confusing. If you go to the Dozier website and look around, it appears that the options available are somewhat limited compared to say A.T. Barr's websight. A person MAY draw the conclusion that Dozier knives may be similar to Sebenza or Randall knives. I consider them to be custom knives since Bob Dozier makes all of the knives himself. As most people here realise the line between Custom and Handmade is a gray area can get confusing. Some of the high end production knives can blur that line further depending on what defination you use.

Doziers are considered customs. Bob grinds all the blades as far as I know, but probably has his sons help him with the profiling and handles. Great knives; I just wish I could talk him into finishing with a little finer belt.

I consider them handmade but he doesn't always grind his own blades. They are done in house by the help sometimes.

The above mirrors what Bob's wife Linda told me if I remember correctly.

And I agree on wishing he'd use a finer belt on that last hollow grind pass.

Whatever!!! I know the man that grinds for him. I just posted the fact he has help.

Bob Dozier doesn't grind ALL his blades! Jonesy, am I hearing this correctly? Has Bob Dozier taken on an apprentice or has he hired someone just to grind blades? It sounds like he is getting into making production knives. Am I mistaken here?

No I don't think it's production. He has help from time to time. I am not on a smear campaign. He makes great knives and the value is clear for the price. I don't see the difference between this and when he used to grind for AG Russell or when SRJohnson worked for Loveless. I also don't think he would mislead anyone if you called and talked to him personally. I just wanted to answer the question. It is that simple.

Thanks Jonesy, I didn't want to imply that anyone was trying to conduct a smear campain. I was only curious about Dozier knives. I was able to handle a few at a local gun/knife show a few weeks back. I liked what I saw, you can tell the quality was there. With all the different definitions for a custom vs. handmade vs production flying around here, I sometimes get confused.

Easyrider,

Your welcome, I think his knives are a great value. He has been around a long time so he is doing something right for sure. :)
