Ok, bending your nail backwards really doesn't feel good at all!!::grumpy:

Got a brand new, old stock Winchester teardrop jack...
excellent knife, I'm loving it except...

the small blade is incredibly hard to open...
in fact, I did bend my thumbnail back nearly perpendicular to the thumb!
part of it broke off, and there is a visible "score line" in the nail!

I really want to EDC this knife, other than "using it", any tricks to loosen up a
monster backspring on a slippie?

Steve makes a good point. By leaving it partly open at a 45 degree angle for a few days you may sucseed in wealening the backspring preasure. Could give you some relief.

If that does not work the next step is a very subtle reshaping of the inner corner of the blade tang with a flat jewlers file, but see if leaving it open for a while works first, before taking off any metal form someplace.
