Arrrgh...bent clip again

Saturday I snagged the pocket clip of my Manix on something around the house. Forget what it was, but the clip is now bent and won't hold the pocket. I've done this before with my Standard. Clumsy ox I suppose.

On the Standard, I removed the clip and re-bent it using a vise so that it would hold the pocket again. The phillips head screws were a bit soft and got "buggered" a tiny bit in the operation. Is there a better solution to this problem, or am I approaching this problem in the right manner? Are hex head replacement screws available for the pocket clips? Anybody else have this problem? Thanks for any help.

Please don't take my post to be a criticism. I love my Spyderco's and have four. It is just that if I don't become more graceful around the house, I am going to have to learn to fix the bent pocket clips...lol.

What kind of screwdriver are you using?

One thing you need to do is make sure that the screwdriver fits the screw heads well. I have a set of the smaller Craftsman screwdrivers that I use. They engage the slots perfectly and do not slip. Using a larger screwdriver will encourage slippage and stripping of the screw head.

I've done the same thing in the past with a Benchmade clip. When I clamped it in a vice to bend back, I sandwiched it between two pieces of wood to prevent dings and scratches.

I'd get Spyderco to send me a new clip and screws and then install everything with a screwdriver that fits the job.

If all else fails, make yourself a new one. With .032" titanium and a drill press, it's a snap.

I do the same thing quite a bit. I've replace the clip on my Endura(one of my fav knives:thumbup: ) 4 times. Three times it was so bent that it I couldn't fix it and once it just broke clean off. Spyderco has always been very good about sending me replacement clips.
It's basicly the reason I rarely clip a knife to my pocket anymore. I usualy clip my knife IWB or just keep it in my pocket.

Don't use too small of a screwdriver. My Police model has Phillips #1 sized screw heads. Using a jewlers screwdriver is a sure way to bugger up the screw head.
