Hey yesterday I saw a watch with a sweep second hand and loved it and I was wondering if just because a watch is a automatic movement means that it has a sweep second hand (not the hacking, make sence?). Also next to tritium and indiglo what is the best luminicent paint? Thanks.

As far as I know, a watches with a sweep second hand have mechanical movements. These can be automatic or hand wound, I prefer the latter. So, an automatic will be a sweep second hand, but a sweep second hand will not neccisarily be an automatic.

The best illumination scheme I know of is super luminova hands and markers. It is less expensive than tritium more reliable than Indiglo. While it is not as bright as either, I have never had a problem reading mine, even after several hours without light exposure. I actually find other systmes to be too bright, as I don't have any need to read by watch-light.

It is my understanding that Hacking means that when you pull the crown out, the second hand stops. It has nothing to do with the fact it ticks one second at a time or sweeps (ticks really fast :))

This is true.

Oh ok thanks for the correction! Well I got both my questions answered, you guys are the best! Thanks.

Another bit of terminology: sweep second hand means it's mounted in the center and sweeps the whole dial, as opposed to sub seconds, a little second hand in a little subdial (you hardly ever see that any more).
