Thought that i would give you guys a heads up. Tuesday the 7th (today) on the History channel

10:00PM - 11:00PM Axes, Swords and Knives

"Blade implements have been a part of civilized man's journey since the Paleolithic Age, when sharp tools were chipped off of flint or obsidian. But with the discovery of metallurgy, people were able to forge stronger, more versatile blade implements. We visit an axe-throwing contest in Wisconsin for an introduction to the least subtle of the blade tools. Then we visit a swordsmith and an experienced swordfighter who work in traditional methods from ancient sources, and review the history of knives. TV G"

For those with a conflict, such as I have, it is also being shown on Wednesday morning from 2:00AM to 3:00AM.

Anybody interested in tape-recording it and passing it around?

I don't have cable, but would love to see it.

Anybody else really disappointed in the show?
The sword part and the axe part was Ok,,,,but Ginsu's and SAK's?!?
My wife thought the house was on fire at one point when I started screaming "I want knives and they're showing spoons!!"

Grrrrrrr.

No mention of tomahawks, Randalls, Busses and Striders?!? Come on.

Not Bad... I liked it. There is only so much that you can cover in an hour. Perhaps Busse, Randall, Strider and etc. can call the producers and volunteer their services for a followup story.

I found the show enjoyable. It needed alot more time for true edged aficionados, but it was entertaining, IMHO. Perhaps a sequel might do it?;)

PLEASE tell me someone taped it! I don't get it here in Canada and I really would like to see it!

That was a pretty good documentary. You got to realize Swiss Army Knives represents THE modern knife for most people, where as Busse does not. Plus you got to give them credit for making fun of Ginsu. :D

The sword part was excellent. It's great to see Paul Champane and John Clemens on TV. They could have spent the entire time on sword making and I would have been okay with that.

Yea, all in all it was enjoyable. They probably needed two hours to do it right. They should have at least touched on the Bowie knife, though; it's probably the most famous knife ever made. Instead, they talked about Ginsu?!? And spent too much time on SAKs. I liked seeing the segment on swords.

I gotta agree. Ginsu and SAK, but no Bowie? Hmmmm.

Sword and axe parts were worth the watch tho.

For TV I thought it was pretty good. Thanks for the heads up LizardKing!

As knife nuts we need to realize that most folks experience with knives might just be Ginsu's and S.A.K.'s.

I thought they spent a fair amount of time with the sword maker showing the basic steps of what he goes through.

I thought it was ok...

The sword making and use part was excellent, i couldnt believe that i was watching that swordsmith make his own steel.

I learned how to properly pronounce "Kyrocea"

I was amazed at the cutting ability of the Flint and Obsidien knives.

The SAK part was very good, i enjoyed listening to the president's Swiss Accent.

"the real inovation of ginsu was it's direct marketing campaign" :)

i enjoyed the flash of the Pocket hobbit we got evertime they went to comercial.

I would say that the Knife part of the show was the weakest aspect. I would have liked them to talk about Camillus, and maybe some one else like Microtech, Benchmade, or Spyderco. Some FMA would have been nice as well.

I could have cared less about the Flatwear, Hist channel also has some documentery on the Sword that is quite good, they go into detail, about, slashing v thrusting, and the Flexible v Hard debate.

Overall it was a good expose on man's oldest tool

I was disappointed they mentioned only 2 mnfgs, Kyocera,(I did think that the ceramic Factory tour was interesting though), and Victorinox, they didn,t even mention Wenger, or any higher end blades.
And don't even start with the Customs.
But I watched anyway, and even though I was disappointed I still enjoyed it.
