Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.

I've been out on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks and am finally back. Whew! Had no idea that a vacation could be so exhausting!

We managed to visit most of both sides of the family. Feels like I just fell off a speeding train...

The highlight of the vacation was showing up at my parents home unannounced and surprising my father with 2 grandbabies and a custom-engraved Buck 110.

It was his birthday and I figured that would make for a heckuva surprise party!

I was right! I had called him on a cell phone right before we showed up (he had no idea we would be in town - we live 2000 miles away) and he was giving me some of his "time-tested" advice when I entered the house. He was coming out of the bedroom as I came down the hall...he froze in his tracks when he saw me, and nearly dropped the phone. Poor guy barely escaped a heart attack! :D :D

Overall, it was a good time and I'm glad to be back.

I've always enjoyed visiting old aquaintances. Like you, it is always good to get back to the home place. I missed seeing your posts for a while. Good to see you made the trip safe.:)

Welcome home, I bet you are plumb worn out, road tripping can really drain a guy. Rest up, catch up, and once again, welcome home.

Bill = that's exactly what my wife said to me at lunchtime today.

perhaps a short "family only" trip will be in the works soon...;)

I always promoted the 3 week vacation rather than two maintaining that one needed a week to recover from the standard two week vacation. Sadly my ideas were always rejected by the likes of Boeing and Lockheed.

LOL! :D

I hear that in Austria, France, and a few other places in Europe, 5 weeks is the standard vacation and it's usually taken all at once.

Of course, you have to spend a week each way just to get to your destination on all those crazy little roads, getting permission at each city's checkpoint, crossing borders, etc.

Or like going through Wyoming... you can be going 80 or 90+ mph and not even notice it, the roads are so straight and smooth.
