are there contests for us balisong flippers? like at slalom, ppl try to get down that hill as fast as possible - we try to impress the judges by doing awesome manipulations. is there one such thing? and if not, why do not someone go together and create it? it would be a really nice to even just be a part of the audience! :)

This was discussed before but for whatever reason it never materialized.

We are going to have to come up with a fair judging technique that accounts for different people's styles. Some people are very percussive with their manipulations and others are more smooth and flowing.

If you search the forums I think you will find some info on this.

Wouldn't have worked anyway. Clay will get the Freestyle event. And Cameron will get the Aerial event. The rest of us would only be fodder. :D :D :D

Heh, just convince them to be on the judging panel. Then you'll have the best judges and neatly open up the floor to everyone else. :)

Don't know about that. Hard to keep Clay from flipping, so even if he was judging, all that distraction on the sideline is going to be hard to compete against... :D

well, maybe we could pay someone to shake clay's hands really hard, to that perhaps a couple of his fingers broke! :p
oh well, he'd probably flip just as well anyway. his moves are so smooth i could :barf: ;)

but there could also be that clay & cameron weren't able to come to the shows. i mean, there would be more than one, and they wouldn't all be in the same place. do they really have enought money to travel all over the world like the rest of us do? :P

I've said it before, if we can workout a framework, we can do this at the prestigious Oregon Knife Collector's Show in April. The Oregon show competes with Bladeshow each year to see which will be the largest knife show in the world. So, it's a great venue and I'm sure I could arrange it. So far, though, nobody has taken to much interest.

If you're talking about for real, what about not necessarily making a competition out of it? That is, have it be an expo where bali flippers great and small can come out and show off their stuff, just freestyling. Maybe folks like benchmade or tachyon might be interested in donating some small prizes and the like as something like this would probably generate some interest.

Maybe even open mic style, if you can get some definites in, then after their done round out the time and see if anyone randomly wants to show off. Maybe that would get the thing started and something more formal could spring forth from that?

that sounds like a very good idea, nybble. i like that better than mine. that way, others than clay would dare to perform their special techniques. :)

to chuck: so, the Oregon Knife Collector's Show is in April, huh? hmm.. maybe i'll try to book a flight and come over for a little visit. i get to see lots of nice :D knives, pluss i probably get to meet a lot of you guys. that could be really interesting. now all i have to do, is convincing my girl friend to come along with me (never leave without her ;)). oh, and also get some money.
