I have an old benchmade custom utility blade that seems to have suffered under my care. There's a lot of play in the handles and in the latch, it still flips decently, but... it's just a beat up knife. I have tried to hammer the pins down, but it just does not seem to work for me.

I was wondering if there was anywhere or anyone who does what in the camera world would be called a CLA (clean, lube, adjust), a good once over of the knife, at least getting the thing aligned again, but a good cleaning and such would be appreciated. Is this a common thing, like I could find a knife store somewhere in NYC to help me out?

Thanks for any pointers!

Contact BM and they will do whatever they can to put it back where it should be. It is not a free service though. They get $60 an hour and turn around time is 5-6 months.

Thanks for the tip, I'll contact them and see what's what. The money I don't mind, but 5-6 months, that would hurt. Of course, I suppose I'll have my brand spankin new tachyon to tide me over.

Nybble,

It might take even more than 5-6 months. I just recently chatted with someone whom I did a trade with (got a Bali-Song era custom Utility - skeleton handles!), and he was saying that Vance had said it would be at least a year for refurbishing work because of their backlog of work.

I've had them work on old classic customs before though, and I tell ya, if you can put up with not having the knife for a while the wait is worth it! They come back looking brand spanking new!
