Hey everybody,

I forged a 21" barong blade last night and I have a question on the blade to handle transistion. Does the sharpened edge run right up to the handle or does it fade out a little ways in front of the grip? I have examined numurous barongs but have failed to notice this crucial piece of info. I have also seen alot of pictures of this style of blade but none of them show this part clearly. I plan on posting a pic when I fiish it up.

The one's I've seen were forged. The bevel ran to the handle but was not sharpened for the first 3/4" or so. Good luck on this project. I've made 3 and found them tricky to balance well.

while in southeast asia and they general leave that first unsharped ans some tymes unground. i think this may have a perpose of blocking or catching a oppents blade. but i have just started my resheah on fighting steel.

uhmm. most filipino bolos have edges that curve right into the lower handle. i see this on working bolos. it's used for touch-up work when carving or whittling wood. it also gives a powerful draw-cut motion when fighting.
