has anyone out there used any of the bauchop knives? i mean used them in the field under less than ideal conditions.

specifically, the "makulu" bowie; i have the opportunity to buy one right, just want to know something about the overall qualities of the bauchop knives.

thanks in advance.

I don't know how often he gets on this forum, so my suggestion would be to post this question off on rec.knives, or go through dejanews and look up the e-mail of Aubrey Moore in South Africa.

I've picked up a Bauchop folder through him, and handled several others, and I know he has several that he uses. He recommends them highly.

I've had a Shaman folder made by Bauchop, and it was perhaps the stoutest liner lock I've seen out there aside of the sebenza, and the overall construction is even heavier, with thick stainless liners and micarta scales. Absolutely no play or flex when its locked up.
In heft I would say the straight knives like the bowie fall in between the Mad Dog and the Busse. More weight in the handle than the Mad Dog, but more trim than a Steel Heart or Battle Mistress, so the knives balance well. They're made to be a hard use knife, not something pretty, but they are still elegant for a combat or survival knife.
