Bear Bali's?

Hi I am new here so I will start with hello!
My question is does anyone use thier bear bali for defensive purpose?
I have benchmades but I like the weight and blade thickness on the bear better.
Any comments?

Hello there!!

I personally don't have any Bears, partly because of the reviews on them, ant the general concensus that the handles are too brittle, and seem to break a lot.
I do like the fact that they have had a damascus blade in production for a reasonable price.

I wouldn't mind taking a bear apart ant re-handling it.


As far as the weight, I thought that the Benchmade were slightly heavier, so do you mean that you like lighter handles?
 
With the new Benchmades the titanium handles are lighter than the older one whichwere mand of steel ,this is why I like the bear because it has a heavier handle than the benchmades.As for the handels being britle I too have heard this but I dont plan on hitting anything heavy with them,plus I allready tightened the pins in a vise and and droped the blade,no damage yet.Belive me i know the benchmades are better quality but I just like my bali's a little heavier..

If you like heavy Bali's, how about the SWAT brass bali or the new Monarch?
 
Well i dont personaly have a bear but my bro does. He has the one with the demascus blade and its really nice blade. I also have heard that the hadles are brittle. The feel of the hadles to me arent that great. I have a jag which is pretty heavy I admit that. But i knoe for a fact that the handles are stronger than the bears. But the pins suck on the jag and ive replaced them many times. I use to alwaz carry my jag on me for self defense. I never once have had to pull it out on anyone though because i dont know what would happen if u get caught with a bali by a cop:( and i dont want to find out. I do carry my bali when I am out late or im in a really busy place."just incase, better to be ready than not right ?" well i hope that help ya and didnt waste ur time.:p

I havnt had a problem with the bear yet..
I would be more worried if the pins broke than the handle no?
I can still control the blade sort of than have the whole thing fall apart Hmmmm somthing to think about no?
I still carry the benchmade also but I just like the heavier handle and thicker blade..
I hope benchmade goes back to the stainless steel handles, oh well maybe one day..and I kick myself in the a$$ everyday snice I sold my model 45 a little while back.:(
So fat the Bear has held up to my abuse It does have stainless pins..
Any more comments will be appriciated?
