I want to get a small last ditch knife to keep in my possibles pouch, and these seem like they would be the smallest I could go with keeping a reasonable amount of functionality. Anybody own both or have a reason why one is better than the other. I know the Remora is quite a bit cheaper but is the Candiru worth the extra money?

I don't own either, but given a choice between 440A (Remora) or 1095(Candiru), I'd go for the latter any day of the week.

well that solves that for some reason I missed the 440A when I was checking it out, I kinda assumed It would be made out of Cro-Van like the rest of the Becker's. Thanks

The Candiru is an incredible blade but be prepared to spend some money. Mine came with a really poor sheath so I had to get a keydex sheath off ebay that I can use as a neck sheath and I ordered handle scales...

Kife 50$ + Sheath 25$ + handles 20$ = ~95$

Well at least you have the Esee no questions asked warranty you don't come across that kind of service too often.

The Candiru is way overpriced, but it's a fantastic knife if you spend the money on scales and a Kydex sheath. But it sounds like all you're going to do with the knife is keep it in a survival kit. For that, I'd recommend a Condor Windfang or Fidelis, instead of either a Candiru or Remora. The Candiru isn't worth it if you're not going to get the scales or sheath, and the Remora just sucks when compared to the two Condors I just mentioned. If you want stainless, Boker makes a few blades in 44C that're around the size of the Remora. White River, ARS, Randall King, Nemesis, Buck, and Meyerco also have a few.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Condors the fidelis is looking like a great option.

I had a Candiru and found the handle too small to be of much use for me. It's also way overpriced. I picked mine up new in the bst here for $50 with a Godspeed kydex sheath and orange handles. At regular buying online prices I never would have touched it. Like someone else said, you'd spend $100 when you add a usable sheath and scales.

Yeah I've kinda decided to put the last ditch knife purchase on the back burner (too enthralled with sheaths for my new 16) probably end up buying that Condor Fidelis at some point. Its an extraordinarily rare occasion that I go anywhere with my possibles bag without some form of fixed blade as well as a sturdy folder so the chances of me having to fall back on a last ditch knife are slim (but hey aren't we all looking for an excuse for a new blade anyway?)

I picked up a KSF leather pocket sheath for my izula. They are made for bark river knives but the izula fits them fine, they are pretty inexpensive (20$ IIRC) there might be one that fits the candiru.

The Pocono Pocket Sheath, (the smallest one,) should fit it perfectly.

Thanks! I am really pleased with mine, it is so much better than the awful molded plastic sheath it came with, and it has a place for my flashlight next to it!
