Can anyone help me with my belt tracking? I have a 2 x 72 Coote grinder. It really works great with the contact wheel, but when I try to flat grind on the platen my belt moves all over the platen. Any tips? I have so far just been grinding alot of scrap steel to get the feel for the machine. Any help would be great Thanksalot..

I am not familiar with this type of machine, but on mine if you put a couple of layers of masking tape in the center of your tracking wheel that helps mine. Also try another belt incase it is spliced wrong.

I think there was a thread on this not too long ago you may be able to look it up in the archives.

The smart a@# answer is get one of Rob Frink's grinders--they track great.

The real answer is take a look at Wayne Goddard's video and books. Wayne has built all his own grinders and gets one built like the Coote to track by using a piece of carbide. The belts don't cut it so he just uses it as a "stop" up against which he tracks the belt to keep it straight.
