Benchmade AFCK vs. 710 - opinions please

Well both are very good knives I own the 710HS and will be purchasing the 806D2 shortly.

The 806D2 allows you to cary in four different positions tip up left hand, tip up right hand, tip down left and tid down right. The 710HS has only tip up carry so the AXIS lock in burried in you pocket.

The 710 is wonderful it has great cutting power and allows a multitude of grips to be used. You can get the 710 uncoated in 154CM with serrated or non serrated blades. http://www.benchmade.com/detail.asp?model=710

Check out their site so you can see. The M2 is very nice aswell and much better steel then 154CM but it is not stainless. So if you can get over your coating dislike then by all means get your hands on one.

You will certainly like this model and you will not regret having spent good money for it.

One thing you might consider is that the hole takes up more area than the thumbstud, which means that the grind on the AFCK starts lower on the blade and therefore is "steeper" than the grind on the TSEK, for instance, which has a thumb stud. A steeper grind generally makes for a less efficient cutting tool. I've read on this forum that this is the reason the TSEK is a better cutter than the AFCK. If you compare photos of the 710 and the AFCK, you'll see that the same seems to be true of these knives, and I would expect the 710 to be a better cutter.

I agree with the above statement, get them both:D I think that the 710 is a great overall utility knife, while the AFCK is can be but is more suited for defence. The new AFCK in D2 with an Axis lock is one of my all time favorite knives.

The AFCK is more of a combat knife.... hence the acronym advanced folding combat knife. The grip still is made for the use of a saber grip. The is more of a user knife, so if that's what you're after I would go with that.

Thanks for the comments guys - I am looking for more of a "user" knife, which is the reason for my discontent with the AFCK. I never wanted a fighter in the first place - I ended up with it after I sent in a broken CQC6 for fixing.

One thing I forgot to ask - how high does the 710 ride out of the pocket when clipped? For some reason, the clip on the AFCK is unusually low so that more of the knife is exposed.
