Best AR/GB pivot lube?

I know this has been asked before, but the search function is not functional. What is the best oil to use on the pivot on my AR? I've been using Rem Oil, which works OK for a day then gums up. I'd like to use CRK fluorinated grease, but I'd need to disassemble it to get in there.

BTW, has anybody found an actual part #/supplier for the tool needed to take my AR apart?

Anything.
I use olive oil on mine because I use it for food sometimes.
In the shop I use Mobil 1. I like a low oil weight, but it doesn’t really matter.

Spray oils like G96 and WD40 are a little too thin.

Buy an adjustable spanner. You can get one for under $25.

I have been using Miltec-1 on my AR and it has been working well for me. So far it has kept the action smooth without having to clean and relube that often.

As for the spanner, I has able to grind one out of 1" mild steel stock. I guess you could do the same with a file, it would just take longer. I can't afford to spend money on a real spanner, working for minimum wage, going through college, and trying to pay for a car and knives? Impossible:D

I went to Sears looking for an adjustable spanner, no joy. I did get some CLP Break Free, which fixed the problem I had with the thing feeling gummy. I guess Rem Oil just doesn't work for me.

if you like breakfree, try FP-10
it's much better...i use it instead of militec-1 now (but militec-1 is great, but fp-10 is much cheaper)
cheers,
derek

I never used any lube, just opened it alot to work it in and it's as smooth as can be. I've never submerged it in water and that could make a difference. When I first got it the ball detent was squeaking and I lubed it and it got worse. Then I remove the lube on the ball and it got much better and then just stopped.

I promised myself that I wasn't going to get all anal about my AR and go blasting it with canned air for lint and drenching the thing with Tuff-Cloth every time the thing got wet. I wussed. I like Mick's idea about olive oil--and for some unknown reason we have GALLONS of that at my house--and the new SnG will get olive oil instead of black moly and Break-Free.

That's the part of the AR that's no fun. It doesn't rust, it doesn't scratch, it stays sharp forever and it polishes up on the Edgepro far too easy.

I had an 'Evolution' Sporster just like it. No oil leaks, started every time, darn thing acted like a Honda.

There's ad copy for the Strider Corp; "Buy a Strider, Harley-Davidson strength with Honda maintenance." That'll sell.
