I am looking for a new cold steel folder and i want to know your opinions on the best for the price ranges of up to $200 and over $200. Please tell me the name of the knife, and the website where i can buy it the cheapest along with the price at that website. Thanks for the input.

your not seriously going to put $200 down on a cold steel are you. Thats like spending $300K on a scion or something of that nature, maybe a saturn.

If your willing to spend that much why do you want a Cold Steel?
There are much better folders out there.

Sorry. I should explain.

There has been a lot of CS talk and I don't have time to get into it all. Do a search and you'll be busy for a week. Honestly, my advice is look into Benchmade, Spyderco, Emerson, Bradley, Lone Wolf....

For the $$$ you're talkin', you can do better than Cold Steel IMO.

Okay i'll revise my request. along with the origional info suggest your favorite folder from each price range give me that info, and please provide its strenghts over cold steel and please include the up to $100 price range i cant find a BM for less than $100. sorry but cold steel is the highest quality brand i own. Thanks.

I would recommend the Benchmade Blue Class Griptilian.
A solid knife for the price under $100 or any Red Class for less.

I bought a Spectre a while back to collect. It is well built but not very good for much I don't think. Its kind of a flop as far as the design goes. I think their best folder over all is the black sable but so pricey no one would take it serious I don't think. Besides that its huge.

I've had a lot of their folders over the years. About the best one I ever handled was the $50 plus or minus Ultimate Hunter folder. Its big but well made and has a very strong reliable heavy duty frame and lock on it. I wish the blade steel was a step up from AUS8 but that is a good tough steel that performs quite well so for the money I think its about as good a folder as they offer.

I have no experience with the over $200.00 Cold Steel folders, but in the under $200.00 range the Ultimate Hunter really impressed me.

There are several reliable internet dealers who are all competitive. One or another may happen to have the best price on a particlular knife, but generally not by much. It's a good idea to find which one you're most comfortable with instead of always hunting for the absolute best price, which may lead you into suffering from the absolute worst service. :)

Knife Center is a good place to start because they tend to have the best pictures and descriptions of the greatest number of knives, including some discontinued models that others don't carry anymore.

Despite emotional reactions to the company & its owner, Cold Steel does have good entry level knives, like the Voyagers, and their high carbon steel knives are very good.

Spyderco, Kershaw, and Benchmade are almost foolproof choices, with a wide variety of styles and prices.

But there are other companies also that warrant our attention, if only for some signature series of knives they do especially well, like Ka-Bar and Ontario.

With all due respect, you want us to wipe your nose and feed you milk and cookies too?

Perhaps you should hang around a while a learn first, you end up saving money and be much happier with whatever it is you eventually purchase.

The San Mai III Cold Steels sport a very nice fit and finish...unfortunately, none of them are made as utility knives and almost all are people pluckers.

It also helps in looking for a knife to decide what its purpose will be. For example, do you want something for dress or pride of ownership, or are you more concerned with durability and utility?

For the under $100 range, I suggest you look at Spyderco, especially some longterm favorites like the Endura or Delica, and the Native, and the Calypso. These are all slim and light, easily carried, but quite durable, and both sharp out of the box and easy to learn to sharpen.

Thanks i think i'll get a half serrated tanto point Benchmade griptillian, and mabey please dont comment on this a CS black sable(once i get a job and can afford it and more) because it looks awsome and i have seen good reviews.

DONT COMMENT? Why not? Its a FORUMS thats what we do, do you not want us to spoil your dreams of grandure? I really dont think the knife is worth what they charge but hay we got a bunch of threads on Cold Steel if you do a search.

For 200 or under I would have suggested a spyderco manix/military/para-military(all better blade steels than the Sable imo) Benchmade 635, 940, 960, 710, 705, etc..heck I could go on. Lone Wolf T-1, T-2. Microtech's, MOD's, Kershaws in ZDP or S30V. I think all those rate very well. But hay its what you want to spend you money on. Read around a bit, look at the knife reviews and go back some, you may change your mind. Have you ever held the Sable?

no i have never held it nor have i held a benchmade or spyderco but the most high end knife dealer we have in my town is Dicks sporting goods and the only people i know are either sheeple or just get what the need to get the job done

If you really want a cold steel folder, don't go for the expensive ones, get an Ultimate Hunter. If you're going to get an expensive knife, go for a benchmade or something like that.

Thanks for being honest, I know its hard to make opinions on knives you've never held and all you have to go on is what people say. Keep reading on here and look over pictures. Take part in a pass around or 2. I am not sure of your income but if your curious about CS, Spyderco, and BM maybe you could buy the models your interested in and sell the ones you dont like. I saw you post on Endura's and Grips, they are not bad priced knives and I am sure you could get both for around 100 and keep both or sell the one you dont like. That way you get experience with both and get more of an idea on what you like.

I like many CS knives I am just not a fan of some of the things that go on. Do a search and you'll find enough topics on it. These are just my opinions, I am sure some others will come along soon with some good ones.
