Best knife lube?

Need some advice. What is the best type of lubricant for a knife? Put some 3 and 1 oil in my leek and now it seems it has gotten slower to open! How do I remove it without damaging the knife and what is the lubricant to use?

If you want to get the 3 in 1 Oil off the knife, I'd just wash it in HOT water and dish soap (Dawn, Joy, etc). Make sure that you dry it well afterwards. I personally use Militec-1 to lube my folders. If you want to read more about how to apply Militec-1, go to:

If you want a lubricant that dries after application, you could use Tuff-Glide. I've never used it personally, but it gets rave reviews on the forum.

If it is a metal-to-metal pivot then ATM nano-lube is great. I find the diamonds don't make as much difference on teflon or plastic washers. For them either Militec-1 or Eezox seem to work almost as well.

What causes the gumming up of 3-in-1? I use it on my knives, and never had an issue. When I clean my knives, I flush out the lock/pivot with WD-40, then lubricate with the 3 in 1. Am I flushing out any buildup, or am I just too dense to notice any change?
 
3 in 1 works just fine. It may be a little heavy for knives with really tight tolerances, but it won't hurt them.
I'm not sure about diamond "nano technology." Diamond is one of the most abrasive substances known. Educate me, please. If you use stuff like this on pocketknives, how much does an oil change for your CAR cost you?

I've been using Tuf-Glide for a few years and like it.

Regular maintenance usually involves washing the knife with hot water and mild dishwashing soap. I use an old toothbrush for the tight places and follow this with a blow dryer set to low.

After that a couple of small drops in the pivots and I'm good to go.
 
I have used Militec - but the directions mention heat. Is heat nessesary to get the most out of the lub?

In my opinion, heat really does improve the quality of Militec-1. It also helps if you apply Militec-1 one more than once.

after I applied heat onto my sebenza, it worked sooo much better.

Diamond is not really abrasive--it's just very hard. As for lube, the diamonds in ATM Nano-lube are very small (1/30,000 the diameter of a hair!) and are not sharp crystals--think teeny-tiny ball bearings suspended in oil. And if ball bearings wear surfaces, a lot of expensive machinery is in big trouble!

As far as my car goes I haven't got around to using anything this expensive, but $15 for enough ATM to lube all my knives for years seemed like a good deal. It sure smoothed out my Sebenza, and my George Beechey, and my Koji Hara like nothing else. It beat the Militek-1 by a considerable margin on any knife that had metal-to-metal contact. It only took a drop or so on the pivot and it seems to last quite well.

I suspect the diamonds actually 'sink' into the softer washers, etc. and don't roll around--and so it doesn't make as much difference there.

Of course, whether it is worth it is up to the individual. I had a few knives I wanted a bit looser, and they were all basically non-adjustable pivots.

Diamond is crystalline in nature, not round. I doubt that they have figured out how to make round diamonds in the nano sizes. I'm not saying the lube doesn't work-just that I can't see the diamond connection. Can you get me more information on it?
