Note to "Mods"..........if I put this in the wrong place, sorry. Thought it might fall under the heading of "maintenance" (??)

I'm asking because I have never displayed knives in my life. I have several, a combination of folders & fixed, and it's my idea to display them in a small, glass topped case.

My question mainly concerns:
1) how to prevent rust, corrosion, etc. (i.e-material to lay knives on??)
2) best way to show folders so as to not harm springs.......(open/closed??)

I personally have not had a problem with corrosion, or springs. If you will click my signature link "My Collection, you can see they just sit on the glass shelves. The room does not get a lot of traffic or dust. And I have easy access to them. The grand kids are forbidden to enter and I have the room alarmed separate for security. It is my "Man Room" Media center with comfy chairs and sofa. In the 40 years I have been collecting, Only one Case carbon blade corroded. I am working on it to bring the polish back. Still soaking in oil to loosen corrosion.

i wonder if tossing some of those little silica gel packets like you get in shoes and things into a case with knives would help prevent corrosion from moisture.

as to springs, they are least stressed when the blade is full open or fully closed. i personally don't display my knives, just store them in a basket closed/in sheaths.

When talking to a knife maker the other day, (I had just bought a fixed blade from him) he told me NOT to store in sheath, that the leather had chemicals and moisture in it and it might cause it to corrode. Better check with another knife nut to be sure.

If the knives are quality knives, it won't make any difference on the blade positions.
