better khukuris?

Hey, I'm new to posting in these forums, but i've been reading them for a while!

I wuz checking out the Himalayan Imports website - pity GH aren't shipping overseas at the mo (UK here)- and theres not that much info on it.

The HI 'Army khukuri' is supposed to be 'better' than the service number one - anyone know how this is?
 
The Himalayan Imports forum is full of nice people who will probably answer all your questions.:)
 
Frank Kay imports them into the UK. Advertises in Gun Mart. HI are as good as they get for using. As said check the dedicated forum.

Visit the site and then come round to the Himalayan Imports forum in the makers/manufacturers section. Plenty of khuku-nuts there who will happily talk your ear off.

I can't speak for the other HI owners, but i believe that there isn't a khukuri made anywhere in the world today that rivals the stuff they produce.

This is an example of some of the khukuries they were selling:

HI Gelbu Special 18" overall, differentially hardened - spine soft, edge near 60RC. Maker is Lal Bahadur Bishwakarma (Bura) the Royal bladesmith to the King of Nepal. It was sold recently for the grand sum of $112. That a bargain or what?
 
From the pictures that I've seen of the Service #1, the HI model has a better fit and finish to them. Both will be tough knives but the BAS will probably "look better".

The BAS that I have has stood up to cutting logs branches and other wonderful things. Unfortunately GH went closed down operations before I started buying khukuries so I've only seen the pictures of them.

The Himalayan Imports forum has several people from the UK who have purchased their khuks from HI. The people there will be better able to answer your questions.
