I finally got the chance to do some primitive camping and wring out some knives. A friend and I hiked several miles into the sticks and found a nice spot on the S. side of a ridge. We each constructed a shelter, mine a leanto and his a debris hut. I gave him my Bhojpure to use for cutting timbers, fire wood etc. He`d never seen a khukuri before let alone used one and was doubtful that it would do the job very well. Ha,was he wrong! By the end of the trip I couldn`t pry it out of his hand. He even had me take a bunch of pics of him with it. He`ll probably be ordering his own any day now! Now for the bad news,he`s not very well versed in cutlery use and etiquette. He wasn`t wearing a belt to strap the sheath to so he`d just use it and then jam it into the rocky ground <cringe!>. He also had a nasty habit of chopping too close to the rocky ground <double cringe!>. If I hadn`t been so busy building my own shelter etc.I would have stopped him but <sigh> I didn`t catch it until it was too late. I would`ve been really pi$$ed but he honestly didn`t know he`d done anything wrong. About 3" of the edge at the tip was baddly impacted and chipped and it was covered with scratches. Doh! 1/2 hour with an EzLap took 90% of the chips and all of the rolled edge out and brought it back to shaving sharp. Another 15mins. had the blade nice and shiny with the exception of about a dozen scratches that are too deep to polish out. All and all it looks pretty good,it`s just not the showpiece it once was. Oh well now I don`t have any excuse not to use it.
