Gday guys...i thought id post a pic or 2 of the head that i am custodian of and hangs on my wall..It was shot by my mentor and hunting legend (R.I.P Punchy Wallace) in 1957..It measures 204 5/8th inches and was penalised 3 inches for overspread..It is a world class head and is 1/8th of an inch off being perfectly symmetrical...It has never been bettered for symmetry and i doubt it ever will....It was shot at 8metres with a 300 savage lever action after servicing a hind....Enjoy!!........FES

Nice! Is it the original cape mount? I ask because I have the antlers from a whitetail buck my grandfather killed in 1959. The mount was so deteriorated by the time that I got it, only the antlers could be salvaged. Since then, I have on occasion toyed with the idea of obtaining another cape and having the antlers remounted using modern. more stable methods.

It certainly has no place in record books, but it was impressive for the 1950's in Arkansas when the deer herd was being reestablished. Besides, it is a very tangible reminder of my grandfather and mentor.

Codger...this is its 3rd mount...funnily enough i won a prize at our annual Sika competition in 2000 for the UGLIEST! head...This is the headskin off that animal...A huge bodied old Sika stag that had started to go backwards as he had no teeth left ...7 pointer........................FES

Well, my grandfather's mount was well done for the time, but as I said, after he died in the early sixties it was relegated to an attic where time, insects nad rodents had their way with it. It is good to know that the antleys can actually be remonted on a fresh cape. I could have had one this year but I let it go when I finished butchering the deer for a friend. I've taken much bigger racked deer myself over the years but the racks really meant nothing to me, so they are long gone along with those large, mature capes. I've only ever had one whole hide tanned, that of a piebald deer I took a few years back. If you don't know what that is, it is colored like a pinto pony with an excessive amount of white spots.
