My Dad used to lug this thing around with him when he backpacked. He's given it to me so I can use it when I'm out hiking around. It's pretty heavy, but has some nice features. I'm not sure how effective the knife or saw would be-- It's sort of awkward holding it. I almost sort of don't want to pack this heavy old thing, but I guess I should take it with me on a few trips, just to see how it works!:)

Thanks for sharing. Always great to see such multitools. I've seen similar multitools, never tried one, but I've got a spork that I take with me when camping. You could give it a try during a few day hikes, when weight isn't a big issue.

Those could come handy in some situations!!!... thanks alot for sharing...

I had something like that in the late 1940's - marked "made in occupied Japan" -it had fake stag scales but otherwise same thing - I can't remember using it for anything or where it got to! I think it's worthy of "retirement" at this point, but great to have from your dad!
Peace
Revvie

I have 2 knives kinda similar. A french bivouac knife and a smaller german version. Both are pretty handy for camping and stuff.

I have the same, but with faux stag. It was given to me, by my parents, in 1969. One thing I laugh about is the size of the spoon. Even opening your mouth to it's widest, the damn thing barely fits. Mine has long been retired, but I used the hell out of it for years during the early 70s.

SPOOOOOOOOON! :D

I can definitely duplicate the functions of this knife in a lighter package, and the quality of the tools isn't the greatest, but I'll give it a go! Thanks for the comments, all!:)

Yeah, I've got one that is almost exactly like that, except with faux stag scales. Also no saw and some of the other implements are different. The sheath is also similar but decorated a little different. There are studs on the "flap".
That's funny, I thought about snapping a pic and posting it here.
This thing was a gift from my great-grandfather. I carried it on many camping trips in the boyscouts.

And yes, the spoon is huge. Oh, fyi in the pictures you've got it sitting in the sheath wrong. The spoon fits on the side of the sheath with the "u' shaped indent.

I had one back in the day ( when I was seven or eight ) , only with bone scales . I remember when I saw my first SAK ( duty free shop , Nandi , Fiji ; 1959 ) .

I use to have one of those with a bone stag handle. I got it in the 70s also. It was made in Japan. I think I paid 5 dollars for it. I gave it to my Nephew and I guess he still has it. Man the memories that brings back. I thought I could take on the whole world with that thing. I use to carry it on my belt with the spoon hooked through the belt. I hated the sheath. I am 42 now and I got it when I was about 5 or 6 yrs. My nephew has it and he is 8 now. I can remember watching "Land Of the Lost" and having that on my side.I wish I could do it all over again.

I had a blade bite me for the first time with a knife like this. I was about 7 or 8, and it was given to me by a friend of my Dad's. I took it out to the woods and was messing around with it by stabbing trees. Stabbed one stump, and the blade folded up on me and gave me a nice gash across my thumb. Probably lucky the blade was butterknife dull lol.

I have the Bivouac but didn't know there was a German version do you have some pictures? Also whats the quality like? The French one leaves a lot to be desired...

The german one is very good quality, way better that the french version imo...it's slightly smaller than the french one and it has acouple more tools... I was told that they were issued to the german army at some point.

The only upside to the french version is the bigger locking knife.

This is the only pic I have on my computer but I'll get some more detailed ones later tonight.
