I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened up last Sunday's Washington Post and there's this Huge article on Bill Moran!!!

At first it was sheer amazement...

I poured through the article eating up every word of it...

Then it turned disgruntlement...:D

How come none of you guys ever mentioned to me that, Hey! Bill Moran lives just 20 miles up the road from you! And that's he's been there for years?!?

I hope to make it to the Hammer-In in October (and perhaps a few more visits before and after).

Here' a picture of the article.

Anybody else going?

Very cool. Seems like a vrey real guy. And considering he's one of fathers of modern bladesmithing, this doesn't surprise me, looking at the great community we have here.

Great article - the recognition of true old world craftsmanship at a national level is something that is not done often enough.

In addition, I've heard that Bill Moran is, quite simply , a really nice guy. - something that is not always the case in the superstar category. He's a great ambassador for the profession.

Thanks for posting the article.
Geeeeez, I wish there were more mainstream articles about knives and knife makers, in newspapers and magazines. Knives sure get enough bad press.

From my personal experience, Bill Moran is an exceptional person who is more than willing to help a stranger learn and promote the forged blade. His willingness to take his time to help others is what encouraged me to join the American Bladesmith Society. There are lots of others that give of their time and hopefully, one day, they will also be recognized for their efforts.
A grass roots move to educate people about knives is probably one of the most important goals in knife making.

I also hope to be at the hammer-in in October. Bill's shop is only about half an hour from me.

For the rest of you knife knuts, there is a knife show attached to the hammer-in. Since this is also one of the regional cutting competitions for the finals at Blade Show '04, some of the top makers in the ABS will be in attendance. Expect this to be a top notch knife show!

Moran - one of my favourite knife people. His greatness lies in his unbiased ability to help so many others achieve their dreams. Truly, a sign of a great character.
